Hello. I have some question for any one that lives in the Orlando area. My husband has applied for a new job in the company that he works for and it he were to get it then it would mean we would be moving to Orlando. I need info on areas to live and the school system. I have 2 girls that are 7 and 4. What are the areas to stay out of? I would also need a place that accepts dogs. We are both from Fl ( Panama City area), but right now live in Tn. Any info would be great. Thanks so much.

What side of town will the job be on? And would you perfer to live in the city or in the suburbs?

Thanks for getting back to me. We are not sure what part of town the office would be on. We would like to live were there is a good school district, since I have 2 that will be in school. I would like to rent a house if we could instead of living in an apt.

Hello!

I saw your post and wanted to respond back. I live in Pensacola currently but will be moving to Orlando in two years when my husband retires from the military. We go to Disney a lot and have begun seriously looking at houses in Orlando with our upcoming move. We were just in Orlando again a week ago, and took a quick look around in addition to doing Disney for four days.

One area that we LOVE is the large Vista Lakes community of neighborhoods--check out vistalakesfl com learn more. There is a wonderful "A" rated elementary school within the community, and the area is near everything! You might want to begin checking with an Orlando realtor and let them know what you're looking to rent. The housing market in Orlando now is the pits, so it really is a buyers market--very nice homes for low prices and lots of foreclosures and short sales.

Hope this helps and good luck with your possible move!

FloridaPixie, thanks for the info. Will look into it.

We have lived in Pensacola and Milton. Hubby use to be a Deputy Sheriff for Santa Rosa County.

Are you looking for Orlando specifically or central FL? Orlando a sprawling city. So where there once was smaller towns on the outskirts now has become part of the "city". Make sense?

I lived in east Orlando Union Park area, near UCF. So I really only know the north and eastern sides of town. To be honest I thought it was just ok where I was.

My pick - Lake Mary. It's on the far far North side of "Orlando", and is a very nice area. With good schools and a safe community. Suburb life at it's best.

If you want something more centrally located, check out Oveido, Sanford and Casselberry. Although I don't know too much about the schools there - seems like the best ones were in Seminole county. Which is again on the north-east side of "town".

It also depends on how much interaction you want with, not just Disney, but all the theme parks. If you move to areas north and east of Orlando, people will look at you funny if you mention the theme parks.

But, if you move to southwest Orlando, Kissimmee, Davenport, or Clermont, you can't get away from reminders of theme park life.

We really enjoyed Clermont. The schools were nice and the area was growing when we left. The drive to Orlando, though, was not really convenient, a good 45 minutes.

If we moved back to Orlando, one place we were looking is Avalon Park, in east Orlando. It's nice and newer than some other areas. Home prices are average for the area.

You can check it out by following the links below:

One more thing. Stay away from Vista Lakes. They realized after Odyssey Middle School was built, it was discovered that the school had been built on....wait for it....A MILITARY BOMB RANGE!!! :scared1::eek::scared1: They have found over 400 unexploded bombs and rockets in the 2 years since the school opened. They can not guarantee that they have found all the bombs, as some could be buried underneath houses and buildings.
