Hi i have read that security is pretty tight! i just want to know how long it takes you to get from stepping off the plane to the area where you meet up with people! The people i am holidaying with are flying out a day earlier than me and are coming to get me from the airport i would prefer to give them a time to come! its no use them coming when the plane is just landing as they may face a long wait! and me being a young person on my own you can bet your life they will search me over and over :) Anyway if you can give me info on how long you have had to wait to get through all of the security i might be able to give them a more accurate time to come :) thanks in advance!

Paul

Usually anywhere between 20mins to 90 mins depending on a few factors, ie :-

1. If you have a couple of planes come in before you, this can set you back a few minutes, due to the wait at customs etc.

2. Security searches can also delay you upto 10-15 mins.

3. How quick your baggage comes off the 2 carousels.

4. If you fly PE or Upper, you will get through quicker.

You should get through quicker on your own and i wouldn't think the security would pick you out just because you are single. I think the security checks are randomn and a bit TOO much. When i was in a queue at MCO in March 02, the security took an old lady out of the line for a randomn stop. She looked around 85-90 and was in a wheelchair ( hardly terrorist materail) They actually made her get out of the chair for the search. Then i got pulled over for the explosives test on my shoes. I tried to explain to her, that i had already had the test done at Gatwick, but she really wasn't interested.
If they could seperate the final destination passengers from the connecting flight passengers, this would really speed things up at MCO.

Good luck

As Paul says, it's a bit hit and miss. We've got it off to a fine art now and we're usually out of the airport within 30-45 minutes of landing, but that includes collecting the bags and the car. We were held up a little bit getting through security last December, but we still weren't there more than an hour.

There's plenty to do at the airport, so even if your plane's delayed they should be able to keep themselves amused. They can always chill out with a drink in the lobby of the Hyatt and watch the planes coming and going.

We've just returned from Orlando and found that the landing, clearing customs, security, baggae reclaim and car collection at MCO was the most frustrating part of the holiday. From the time we landed to actually sitting in our Dollar car hire took a fraction over two hours. Collecting the car accounted for about 45 minutes of this, due to a long line at the Dollar desk (too few agents on duty it seemed to me). With the current level of security I would guess it would take at least 45 minutes from landing to getting to the arrivals hall.

Rob

i don't knwo if you saw on the news the other day, but they have new body scanners at orlando airport now which don't see your bones, but your nakie bod!!! the people who see the pictures don't see the actual person, but someone tere may see your bits at some point. you can opt out of this apparently, but then you have to go through a 10-20 min search. it's all a bit over the top don't you think?

Hiya,

I read all about the naked body scanner last week in The Daily Mail. They have loads of them and they cost over £90.000 each.

I was horrified and glad that we are flying to Sanford.

If you look on the Daily Mail site they might have the article as they have most main articles archived.

Cival liberty groups are up in arms about it.

Byeeee

9 DAYS TO GO

I am not bothered too much about it if it saves me 10-15 mins while they search me anyway! i'll see what happens when i arrive but i certainly will be one of the "Random checks" i feel :)

Can't say I mind if someone who I'll never meet or see again scans me if I save my precious holiday time. Also, if this is the best way to stop terrorists and make flying safe then it's got to be a good idea surely?

I agree with rob@rar.org.uk - checking out of MCO was the most frustrating part of the holiday.

Unfortunately as we landed during a storm we weren't allowed to get off the plane until it had passed (approx 30-45 mins) and presumably other flights were the same. Consequently several flights disembarked at once and once through immigration and customs we then had to join a huge queue which was being held at the bottom of the escalators. A guy there was letting about 12-15 people up the escalator at a time. Once at the top you joined another queue to have your luggage scanned and to walk through the body scanner.

As I walked through it beeped and I had to sit on chair with both legs raised while a female officer ran a wand scanner (or whatever the proper name is) around my legs. I then had to remove my shoes which were passed through the luggage scanner and stand spread eagled while she ran the wand around my body. She said that if it beeped she would need to touch the area to check, i.e bra strap, buttons on jeans etc.

Not a nice experience, but I do accept the need for additional security. And the problem seems to have been my shoes, a pair of sandels, which had a metal in the small heal.

Likewise checking into the airport for your return journey you need to allow additional time to go through this extra security before being allowed to take the monorail to the boarding gates.

We found it weird that there was more security getting off the plane at Orlando than getting back on again two weeks later!!!
