So, apparently the city of Orlando has civil unions now! Who wants to marry me?! Lol! I'm so glad that I saw this on the news!

I thought they did. What are the ceremonies that Disney's wedding department performs then? Weren't those legally binding?

Orlando approved a domestic partner registry. It's not the ability to marry but it is a start for equal rights for the LGBT community in Orlando.

"Once the registry opens on Jan. 12, unmarried couples — whether gay or straight — will be able to record their relationship in a government database for a $30 fee.

Registered couples then would have a few of the same rights that married people take for granted: the ability to visit one another in the hospital or jail, to make health care decisions for an incapacitated partner and to make funeral plans.

The registry would apply only to hospitals, funeral homes and other institutions located within the city limits, but couples who live outside the city are free to sign it. Orange County is considering bringing forward similar legislation that would apply countywide."

Disney had same-sex ceremonies, but they were only that - ceremonies. I think the city of Orlando is making a very positive change!

Well, that's no good :( So even though she says you don't create a law if you don't need it, she's open to morphing the same-sex registry into a general ''anyone can join'' registry?

I was excited to see this. Definitely a great step forward for FL. We are legally married here in MA but thinking of moving back home to FL so its good to see that at least we could have some rights still.

Good news today. Theresa Jacobs has stepped down from her decision to go for an "online form". Yea!

Just an FYI....

Theresa Jacobs is the Mayor of Orange County, not Orlando.....

When you may ask did County's get Mayors? Well that is another story! ;)

While I agree with the mayor of Orange County that people should be able to name anyone that they choose to make medical and funeral decisions on their behalf, this right should come in addition to the domestic partners registry and not instead of.
