Hi,

Can someone tell me what the price was per point when Disney was originally selling BWV?

Thanks!

Erika

We paid 63 in Oct 1998 for an April use year. And we thought that was expensive. Ha Ha

BWV opened July 1996 at $62.75 per point.

Just noticed that they no longer bother with raising by cents....might as well just round-up!

Thanks!!

Did it ever go higher than $63 or did it sell out at that price?

Erika

I bought my origional contract in April 1999 @ 65/pt. I then did a last minute addon @68/pt ust before they were sold out.

We paid $65 per point in 2000, glad we bought in when we did! I don't know what the price per point was when it sold out though, probably not much higher since we bought in shortly before it was sold out.

I'm not sure when BWV sold-out. Rough point cost increases are $65 in January 1999, $67 in May 2000 and $72 per point in January 2001.

Taking a quick look at the increases -- things are going up much faster in recent years. OKW opened 10/7/91 at $51 per point (there were points at $48 pre-opening). When the price goes to $84 this December 1, that will be a 64% increase or a $33 per point increase. From 10/7/1991 to January 1999, the price went up $14 per point or 27%. From January 1999 to December 2002, the price will have gone up $19 per point or 29%. (Feel free to check my math -- I could be off. Prices are $51 on 10/7/91; $84 on 12/1/2002 and $65 in January 1999).

I wonder how long these dramatic increases will take place? It seems as if there is no end to what they can ask and still sell like hot cakes.

When we went to purchase in Jan 2001, BW had just sold out in December 00. It was selling at $67/point. VWL was selling at $72 with a Jan 14 opening for DVC members. Funny that by Feb 01 resales for BWV were asking $68 (more than the initial purchase price) Of course that doesn't mean they sold for that amount. We were able to purchase BWV resale for $62 with all 00 and 01 points. The problem now is that with a direct Disney purchase going to $84 , it makes the original purchase price irrelevant. As long as the life of the program is the same, and points available in the resale are intact, resales will be dictated by demand, and anything $10 or more below Disney's price will be a bargain. Especially for Epcot properties as they have no other resorts on tap with that proximity to the parks (at least for the next few years anyway). You could always get lucky and find a seller who is happy to recoup their initial purchase price in the low sixties, but if this is done through a resale agent remember they are paying $1000- $1500 in commisions.

Some time back the DW & I were talking to our guide and asked about the sharp jump in price per point. His resonse was DVC hiered a consulting firm to look at the cost they were charging per point and is was low (Very Low). So this is why there has been many 3 - 5 increases since late 99 early 00. Looking back at it, if the price was $84 per point when we joined, I don't think we would have or would have at a lot fewer points.

Don't forget that many people used Magical Beginnings to buy into BWV, thus bringing the point cost down even further. When I bought in in April 98, I got $10 off per pt. With a June use year, that meant giving them the pts I couldn't use anyway, in exchange for $1700 off the purchase price, and still was able to get my next allotment of points two months later. I thought that was a great deal then, and jumped at the chance. Who would have guessed just how good that really was? If only my 401K had done nearly that good in the same period, I would have been ecstatic!!;)

I bought my DVC membership at BWV when they opened and paid the $62.75 per pt and then used the Magical Beginnings to not get a cash rebate but instead I got 2 full yrs worth of pts right off the bat because my contract date was backdated. That first year was great, we were living large because we used all 2 yrs worth of pts in the first year and loved every minute of it! LOL! At the time paying the going rate through Disney seemed high compared to the resale prices that at that time could be had in the high $40's-low $50's per pt; but now it seems like a bargain!! :jester:
