Anybody here do the "Original WDW trip"? And just stay at the Poly or CR for 4 days, just go to MK, and that's all?

Stayed at the CR during my honeymoon in 1973. We were in the tower (park view), and I remember watching fireworks from the balcony.

Our first trip as a family was in 1980. We couldn't get a reservation on site which wasn't uncommon back then. We stayed at a Days Inn on 192. And yep, MK was the only park. We only were there 3 or 4 nights and a room opened up at the CR for our last night. At that point we didn't feel like moving with our baby (8 mos at the time).

My husband took his youngest four brothers and sisters even before that...probably around 1976. I know they stayed off site too though.

Grandmother use to take us. Stayed in the Polyn for a week. we did the MK, then the stuff at the resort - boating, dinners, just relaxing - it was wonderful.

I think the OP means - would you go to WDW and stay at one of the original resorts and only go to the MK?? At least that's what I think.

Bunch of times......we went every year as a family to Poly from about 74-77 (I was around the ages of 9-13)......had to book for the following year as we were leaving to make sure we got reservations.......I think that is why when I go now with my family don't feel like I have to rush from park to park......if we go for 7 or 8 days we will only go to parks maybe 4 or 5 days.........from those times when there was nothing but MK I think I learned just hanging out at the hotel and swimming etc was just as much fun as the parks.........I don't think I would enjoy trip nearly as much if I had to plan and fill every second of my trip, lounging by the pool at the Poly and sipping a Pina Colada while my 3 children (4,8,9) enjoy the pool and run around, going in to swim once and a while, going to the old Cpt. Cook's Lounge (I know I'm dating myself) which is now the snackbar to get lunch to eat by the pool.....I think thoses times are just as enjoyable for them and my wife and I, as racing thru the parks...............

Ilovestitch is right. I really meant if anybody does that kind of vacation now. I liked reading all the reminiscing though! Thanks! Only going to one park and just enjoying the resort like Spicycat said sounds so pleasant.

Carrie..this is a good idea for a thread! I do like hearing others' stories and memories, but I knew what you meant. That is a cute idea...to take an "original WDW" trip. I never thought to call it that!

So, to answer your question....NO! I have never stayed at the Poly or CR, but I will do it one day!

Also, to add to the memories...I DID stay at CR when I was about 6 years old, but don't remember a darn thing! And any time after that, when we would go to WDW...my dang parents would make us stay offsite! I was ROBBED in my childhood....robbed, I tell ya! :rotfl2:

I'm going the end of January with my 4 year old niece. We're staying at CR and will most likely only visit MK. We've got the free park hoppers, so we might go to some other parks, but she's really not into anything but MK. So we're going to wing it, but most likely we'll only visit MK this time around.

Oh, does DTD count? LOL It's not a trip to DW without a stop at DTD! :earsgirl:

Last year we stayed at Poly and went to MK mostly, but we also went to Epcot (it's our favorite park and we can't not go :) ). Does that count?

We did this. Our first (and only so far!) trip was in September. We stayed at CR, wing room, for 4 nights, only went to MK with our 2 year old. Had an absolut blast. Loved everything about it!

And during those old days, do you have to walk uphill, both ways, in the snow, barefoot, to MK?

Took 2 trips in the 70's:

1) Easter break 1974? - drove from NJ, stayed off-site, did 2 or 3 days in MK, other days to Sea World, Busch Gardens, etc. I think the trip was close to 2 weeks from beginning to end.

2) 1979 - senior class trip - again, off-site, but did the Luau, MK for a few days, even swam at River Country and drove water mice on Bay Lake!

I own DVC - so yes at times I definitely just go to one park. When I stay at VWL - it is mostly MK - if not the only park.

When I stay at BWV or BCV - it is mostly Epcot - some visit to Studios - but mostly Epcot.

Now if I didn't own DVC - this would not be possible - not on my budget.... :goodvibes

Yes, but ice skating across the lagoon was more fun.
