Can anyone tell me if Orient Bay in St. Maarten is okay to bring kids (ages 5 & 9). Would like to spend the day and not be worried about nude bathing.

Thanks.

We took our two children to Orient Bay DS11 and DD5. We headed more towards the left side of the beach if you were facing the water, which is a more family friendly area. We only saw 2 topless women. I don't even think the kids noticed, they were busy having too much fun in the water and sand to pay attention to anyone walking by. It was a very pretty beach.

You won't see many topless or nude people on that end of the beach, but you will see a few casually walking by. We saw both topless and completely nude people walk by when were were there on the left end of the beach, quite a ways (long, long walk)from the nude section.

I would suggest that you go AND NOT worry about the nudity. We took 3 kids age 9-15 and if they noticed any of the toplessness they didn't turn into raving sex fiends because of it. Where we were 95% of the women were "appropriatly" attired. There were a couple of fully naked people walking around but that we almost as "exciting" as looking at very old, very dark wall panneling (Playboy it ain't).

And if you are fortunate to have some idot white guy near by you can instill a life lesson to your kids. This guy was either on the Magic or the Golden Princess, pretty much white all over except for his flaming red "cheeks":o  I really don't know how this idiot guy was able to sit down for a week because he didn't take precautions to protect the area "where the sun don't shine" :sunny: when he let the sun shine there!:sunny: Didn't see his front side (The Full Monty:eek: ) but speaking as a male, if the front was as red as his backside then he was in a world of hurt and got what he deserved!!

BTW: Orient Beach IS beautiful. I'm glad we went there. The vistas, the beach, the sand, the water and waves - it is one of the worlds best / most beautiful beaches!!

We brought our dd6 on the DCL Orient Bay excursion. A few nude people walked by, but my daughter did not even notice. She was having to much fun playing to worry about naked people. :sunny: I would go and not worry about it. The beach is absolutly beautiful! I would do it on your own though, it is much cheaper to take a taxi yourself and the lunch provided is not that great. :D

We went (just dh and I) and saw all sorts of people/clothing attire. I would have no problem taking my kids there, but we're pretty open in my house (I run from the shower to the laundry room in a towel, change in front of them as needed, etc. Hope this isn't TMI for anyone LOL) and they wouldn't blink at someone in the buff. We just didn't take the kids because it was "our" day to enjoy (we did a private family sailboat rental on St. Thomas so they had "their" day too).

Definitely take a taxi - we walked off the ship to the transportation area, went to the sign for Orient Beach and I think it was cheap. When you're ready to go, just return to the same drop-off area and there are cars/vans lined up waiting

We went with our 4 young children last week. We explained to them in advance that we might see some nude sunbathers and that in some cultures it's a very normal, natural thing to do, and that they should just go about their business of playing on the beach. We were further down to the left of where Disney brings the excursion and saw quite a bit of nudity. Completely nude men and women and some women who were walking topless. We weren't seeking this, it's just where we ended up exploring on our own. When a nude sunbather would walk by, my kids would look at eachother and smirk a bit, but I was very pleased at how maturely they handled it and really at the end of the day quite pleased to have given them the opportunity to see how things can be done differently in other cultures and that it's no big deal, IMHO>

Here are some pics of Orient Beach....it really is a beautiful beach. We have been here 4 times and you will see some nude, partially nude people....but it really becomes old hat....expecially to the kids. They barely notice now

My DD16 just left for Orient Beach today for a 10 day stay with our neighbors....lucky girl!!!!

I told her to wave to the Magic this week if they went into to Philipsburg on Tuesday!!!
