Oreo Truffles - question for anyone who has made these.

I made these for the first time last year and they were a huge hit!

Def. put the truffles in the refridgerator or freezer for a little while before dipping in the melted chocolate. Makes handling much easier. And I also use Baker's Chocolate in the microwaveable cup - very easy to use. Figure one cup of chocolate per batch.

Love the idea of using sea salt and holiday sprinkles on them too! I'll have to try that this year.

Any other way to mash the oreos - I dont have a food processer - would a blender work??? or ???? maybe Ineed one.. these sound AWESOME

I've made these with the mint oreos and they're great (instead of using extracts) Also tried them once with the vanilla oreos and white chocolate and those were good too.

You could try the blender. I used to put them in a big ziploc bag and use a rolling pin on them until they were smashed to oblivion back before I had a blender or food processor. Took a bit of time to get them crushed, but it worked OK.

Oh these sound FANTASTIC!! :goodvibes

Guess I know what I'll be making this weekend (and next weekend, too, since there won't be any left by then) :rotfl2:

I make "turkeys" at Thanksgiving with these. First I make the oreo truffles dipped in chocolate, then I attach three candy corn to look like fanned out feathers then a chocolate chip swirl side down for the flappy thing. Two white decorator gel eys with black decorator get int he center for pupils--they totally look like little muppet turkeys!

OP when the other poster asked if you were crazy it was a joke--the cream in the oreos is the bestest part, it can never be scrapped and discarded!:worship:

Not sure any thing else will get them powder fine. They dont' work correctly unless they are crushed superfine.

Have you got any pics that sounds fantastic, I found this website while looking on the net I would love to try some of these things.

It is an American site I have never seen ABC pretzels over here, they aren't as big on pretzels as you guys seem to be. But these reindeer are just too cool.

I knew he was joking and just giving me a hard time. Hard to do a comeback on the internet but I wasn't offended or anything.

To the PP who doesn't have a food processor. You can get one of those little $5 ones from any CVS or Walgreens type stores. These work well with this recipe because they are little and it's easy to 'dig' out the crushed cookies. It's also great for clean-up!

Another tip is to crush Thin Mints (had a ton of these one year) and sprinkle them onto the top of the truffles after you've covered them in chocolate. Yummy!

Oreo Truffles

1 pound Oreo Cookies -- 3 sleeves (45 cookies)
1 - 8 oz Cream Cheese -- room temp
1 pound Melting milk chocolate
1/2 pound Melting White chocolate -- (Can vary the colors depending upon the occasion)

Using a food processor, grind cookies to a fine powder.
Using mixer, blend cookie powder and cream cheese until thoroughly mixed (should be no white traces of cream cheese).

Roll into small balls and place on wax-lined cookie sheet.
Refrigerate for 45 minutes.

Line two cookie sheets with wax paper.
In double-boiler, melt milk chocolate.
Dip balls and coat thoroughly.
With slotted tool, life ball out of chocolate and let excess chocolate drip off.
Place on wax-paper lined cookie sheet.
In separate double boiler, melt white chocolate.
Using a fork, drizzle white chocolate over balls.
Let cool.

If not eating that day. store in airtight container, in refrigerator.

Thank you!:worship: I will be making these in the near future, after I go to Costco and get the huge box of Oreo's!

Oh, how cute I have never seen this site before, what great ideas. My turkeys are similiar to those on this site only I use 3 candy corn and a chocolate chip, no feet & no stick!

Has anyone used store brand oreos for this recipe? Wegman's makes their own, and they are really quite good. They have the same consistency as oreos (not like some generics that are a lighter chocolate and aren't as crunchy).

Slightly off-topic

I am planning to make truffles (coconut & peanut butter) and used to use wilton chocolate (10+ years ago) but I found recipies call for semi-sweet chocolate chips and parafin.

Using wax in my food sounds kind of gross. Can I just dip in the chocolate chips or what can I do? I hear people use 'bakers' chocolate - how does that differ from the Giradelli bakers chips I bought today?

TIA - Kitchen challenged.

You can dip them in 1 bag of choc. chips melted in the microwave with 1 tablespoon of shortening...that will make the chocolate smoother! HTH!

I was just going to say that we've made these for a few years now and I always just use my stand mixer (Kitchenaid). I put in the paddle (paddle shaped mixer but has holes in it). And then I just throw in in a few cookies at a time while it's on (5-10 cookies at a time). It breaks them up nicely....and then I just add the cream cheese and let it continue to mix. We've also made them a bit chunkier (not superfine crumbs) and they still get rave reviews.

I've made the truffles before and they are yummy. Here's another sweet treat that is really easy and very addicting! Hope no one minds my jumping in with this...just thought I would share another goodie.

Rolo Turtles

Place a small unsalted pretzel on cookie sheet.
Top with one Rolo candy (choc/caramel)
Bake in 250 degree oven until Rolo is soft and starts to melt.
Remove from oven and press a Pecan half into the melted Rolo.
Cool in fridge until set.
