Oregon to WDW Will Be Quite the Adventure~Going LIVE!!

We are going to be there the same time you will be! We are driving from California, with stops in Virginia and North Carolina to visit family. We also have around 10 colleges we plan to see along the way for our 16 year old! I'll be following along!

Now THAT's a road trip!! We did a 17 day road trip last summer from Philomath Oregon all the way down to San Diego and back. I thought that was a lot of driving.....but Cali to Florida??? That's impressive!!
Exciting to be seeing all those colleges along the way (as well as some of the sights I'm assuming?)

Where are you staying at WDW??

Glad to have you along!!!

Tonight's the night (at least I think it is) for me to make my Fastpass+ choices. I actually thought it was last night but realized my countdown includes the first night we're away from home. If I read right in other's posts.....I can start making my choices as soon as the last park closes (which is midnight) tonight. That would make it 9pm my time. I will keep my fingers crossed that I can do them tonight and we get what we want!!

So I was able to do our Fastpass+ choices last night before I went to bed!!! I got everything I wanted and with the use of DAS as well, I think we should have pretty smooth sailing.

Day 1-MK We got Peter Pan, Seven Dwarf's Mine Train & the Anna and Elsa Meet-n-Greet
Day 2-EP We got Test Track, Spaceship Earth & the Character Spot
Day 3-HS We got Rock-n-Roller Coaster, Frozen Sing Along & Indy Stunt Show
Day 4-AK We got Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safari & Kali River Rapids
Day 5-MK We got Haunted Mansion, Enchanted Tales with Belle & Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
Day 6-AK We got Expedition Everest, Kali River Rapids & Kilimanjaro Safari (unfortunately, I was not able to get the safari first thing in the morning either day)
Day 7-EP We got Soarin', Journey into the Imagination with Figment & Turtle Talk
Day 8-MK We got Big Thunder Mt Railroad, Splash Mountain & Seven Dwarf's Mine Train

I was pretty happy with the times I got (most in the morning or worked between meals) and most are used by 2pm so we will have the option of adding more if needed. The tier system for Epcot and Hollywood Studios is a pain but we always have the DAS as a backup for things. I also made sure to use the FP+ on the rides that some of the kids won't do (because the ones that wouldn't do them are also the ones that would have a DAS for the easier/gentler rides) and that way, everyone's taken care of. I also was told to use the FP+ on the more popular character meets like the Anna and Elsa and the Enchanted Tales with Belle. So hopefully this will all work.....I guess in 2 months we'll know!!!

Nice fastpass line-up! You've got the biggies covered and can fill in with the rest. it's starting to get close!

Thanks, I was pretty happy with how easy it was to do them and get most at the times I was hoping for. The Kilimanjaro Safari was the only one I couldn't get first thing in the morning but I is around 10:45 and the other one is around 12:30.....so at least it's not in the heat of the day.

Nice line up!!! Here are my reviews (all in bold are what I have done):

Day 1-MK We got Peter Pan, Seven Dwarf's Mine TRAIN & the Anna and Elsa Meet-n-Greet
Day 2-EP We got Test TRACK, Spaceship Earth & the Character Spot
Day 3-HS We got Rock-n-Roller Coaster, Frozen Sing Along & Indy Stunt Show

Magic Kingdom
You are going to LOVE the Mine train. It's a neat ride and you'll get to see the house at the end. My sister and I did the Anna and Elsa meet and greet in December during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas. I believe we had to wait about a half an hour (my parents were not there, just my sister and I). At the same party, the line for Peter Pan was long :scared1: so I did not go. Haunted Mansion is nice. You will LOVE Enchanted Tales with Belle. There is audience participation by the way incase the girls and Mike want to get picked. I got picked in December as one of the servants :rotfl2:. At the end, the ppl who get picked get to take a picture with Belle and get a cute bookmark. Unfortunatley, there are limited parts for adults so I had to share the part with this gentleman. Thunder Mountain, honestly, is better at Magic Kingdom as is Splash Mountain. As I mentioned earlier, the seating is better there

Epcot
I LOVE Test Track. The cars seat 6 so you may have to be seperated. Still, it is a fun ride and it took me back to prom. Spaceship Earth is neat and at the end, you'll see something fun (I will not spoil it for the kids). I finally did the character spot last summer (it was a short wait). I LOVE Journey into Imagination with Figment. The song is very catch and it's cute. I did Soarin in '10 and we decided not to do it since we have it at DCA.

Hollywood Studios
I love Rockin Roller Coaster!! It is one of my personal favorites. The Frozen sing along is neat. We did it in December (stay tuned for Frozen stuff in my Panama trip report, there are some surprises) and it is neat. You even get to see Kristoff too.

Animal Kingdom
I LOVE Everest. Due to the seating, you guys may not be in the same ride photo. You'll like the Safaris. I LOVE Kali River Rapids and you should a bring a change of clothes since you will get wet. Unlike Grizzly, the boats seat 12.

Other rides
The Seas With Nemo & Friends. It's really cute and you get to sit in clammobiles and you can do this since turtle talk is in the pavillion

Do the People Mover. My sister LOVES this ride and we have done it on all trips (with the exception of 2009)

Questions:

Has Derek been on the Tower of Terror yet? I'm sure that he could take Anthony and Addy if they wanted to go. It is a little scarier than the one at DCA.

Are there any rides that you guys could get the DAS for the girls?

Did you hear that the DAS is gonna be like the one at Disneyland? That means, whichever adult is getting the DAS for each girl will need to have EVERYONE'S magic band. Here's some info:

I'm excited for the Mine Train......When we were there in 2013, it was under construction and then it opened right after Derek left the College Program. He of course, has been on it since & loved it!! The girls are planning on wearing their Anna & Elsa dresses when they meet Anna & Elsa and they are very excited for that!! I loved the queing area of Haunted Mansion....it was fun. When we were there, it was slow....so we got to play before going in. Enchanted Tales sounds like it will be fun....hopefully someone from our group will get picked! LOVE the Peoplemover....takes me back to my childhood at Disneyland.

We really enjoyed Test Track, Spaceship Earth & Journey w/Figment.....I think the kids will also enjoy it. I think the kids will also get a kick out of the Seas attractions & the Land attractions.

We didn't get on Rock-n-Roller Coaster in 2013 because the standby line was over an hour & no FP's (we had started at AK that day). I'm actually nervous about this one but want to try it. Mike is going to sit this one out and will keep the 3 girls with him. Addy & Tony will like it! We've seen a video of the Frozen Sing Along and Addy is giddy about going! Derek has done ToT and Addy and Tony have done it at DCA......I'm not sure this will work into our schedule or not. We are only doing 1 day here and are doing 2 table service meals. Right now, it's not even on the schedule.

We loved Expedition Everest....it was hands down my favorite ride in 2013!! The kids will like the safari and hopefully the heat will hold off until we go through so we can see lots of animals. I heard you get pretty wet on Kali River.....I love these kinds of rides but I hate getting soaked!! Not sure what we're going to do about the extra clothes, since there will be 8 of us and I would want it with us and not stored on the other end of the park. Can't wait to see the Lion King show in their new theater and also seeing Finding Nemo Musical for the first time.

I had seen things on the DAS about it being tied to the MagicBand. We will ALL go to Guest Services to sign up. We will probably end up with 2 different ones (we probably could go with 3 but no need). Michayla will definitely qualify for one but we will need to get one for Shy as well since there will be things that Shyann will be willing to ride that Jasmine & Michayla won't.

Good idea about the DAS. If you remember from your last TR, the DAS at Disneyland Paris was a nightmare. Only one (that's right, 1) other person could go with the DAS holder. We ended up getting one for me and one for my sister. Not only that, but we had to get doctor's letters too. If you guys ever go, here's the link to their DAS & disabitlity info:
https://brochure.disneylandparis.com/HCP/UK/catalogue/index.html
I believe there were lockers near Kali because we did it last summer and I lost my swimsuit shorts.

By the way, which day is the BBB? I wonder what rides Derek could take Anthony on during that time

Wow, Paris is very different!! I don't have any plans of traveling over seas, so I won't have to worry about that.

We're doing BBB our very first park day at Magic Kingdom. I'm guessing Derek & Tony will run off and do their own thing during that time. Mike will probably stay with us to get pictures and help care for Michayla. We're not doing the boutique on her, she wouldn't sit still for it. We'll dress her up & I'll do something with her hair and hopefully she will cooperate to have her picture done with the girls when they're done.

Cool!!! I loved seeing pictures of the kids there but they aren't showing on your WDW '12 PTR anymore. Can't wait to find out about the kids buddies

Looks like you scored a really nice lineup with a nice variety! Good job, Mama! :)

I especially like the fact that you did 7DMT like 4 times! WOOT!

Hey Laurie! Just read thru your report - as usual, I am very late to the party! To backtrack a bit, glad Mike's surgery went well and soooooo very happy for you have a new addition to your family! I followed on FB and am so happy for all of you!!

Your WDW plans sound great. We arrive on 8/1 and leave on 8/9. I have compared our plans for the 8th and 9th and don't know we are going to cross paths! I am soooo bummed. On Saturday the 8th we plan to hit DHS early, then head to EPCOT for lunch thru dinner and the MK at night. On Sunday the 9th we will be at EPCOT all day. The only thing I am thinking is that since we are staying at AOA and your are at POP maybe we could hop over. I can't remember now if you were planning breakfast at POP that morning. I am going to go back & look.....

Ok, it does look like you plan to grab breakfast at POP on Sunday the 9th. Would love to coordinate meeting up just to say "hi" before we head off to EPCOT! Warning - that is our last day so we may be a bit sad! LOL

Hopefully we can coordinate timing as we get closer!

On the 8th, we have a 9:45 breakfast at Kona Café and on the 9th, our first FP+ at MK is 9:05am. So I don't know if we can meet early on the 8th (before we would need to leave & you would want to be heading to DHS). We could meet on the bridge between the 2 resorts (I believe the bridge connects Pop & AofA)??

I'd be willing to meet as early as 7 or 7:30. I think we need to be getting in the bus lines by 8:30 at the latest. Just let me know you're thoughts.

We aren't really doing breakfasts at Pop......we will grab-n-go or a quick snack in our room before heading out to the parks. On the 9th, since this is our first park day, we need to get there early to take care of getting our DAS and still making our 9:05-10:05 Peter Pan FP+. So I'm not sure this would be an easy day to meet.....it would have to be pretty darned early since we figure we'll get in the bus line around 7-7:15.

Mike is feeling much better now that he's totally healed. He's been dealing with that hernia for about 7 years.

The new addition is throwing us some curve balls, but she'll settle into our crazy family and we'll figure out her little quirks and we should all be fine with some time. Most of the time, its great.....Addy & her fight a lot, but they're 11 days apart in age, girls & almost 10......lots of girl drama at this age.....lol

7:30 on the 8th would probably work for us. We could head over to POP and grab the DHS bus from there. Meeting up with motivate us to get up and out early! Really just wanted to be able to say hello and see how much the kids have grown since we last met up!

Great, I'll put it down on our plans!! Looking forward to seeing you again!! Yeah, the kids have grown A LOT since we saw you at Disneyland.....lol :flower1:

Yeah, my "kid" is now over 6 foot! LOL Adding our meet to our plans as well! Happy we can squeeze in time to at least cross paths! Truth be told DS would probably rather go to Kona with you all for tonga toast but alas I am dragging him to DHS because I want pictures with the characters in the 40's attire! :rotfl2:
