Any experience with a side by side double stroller? Issues at security or with a specific airline?
Thanks!!!

LOL, this is a pretty specific situation. I doubt it would be an issue with the airline, as you can gate check it. As for security, I haven't tried running a "double-wide" :lmao: through the x-ray machine, so I'm not sure. I guess worst case you can bring it and give it a go. If you can't get through security, you could check it at the counter (or leave it in the car).

PDX has two sides for security. Since Concourse A-C (on left side as you come from ticket counters, see map link below) is where most of the planes are, most of the time, it is easier to get through security on the Concourse D-E side (right side as you come from ticket counters).

Usually the lines are much smaller on the D-E side (unless Continental, United, and/or Delta are close to flight times), so try there first, as the TSA agents can take the extra time to help. However, if the line at one side looks long, have a peek at the other side. if they are balanced, no worries just go in the one you are in front of.

Once through security, there is a walkway that connects the two air sides.

Have fun!

ETA: You know, now that I think of it, you may want to post this question on the Transportation board. Since the TSA machines are fairly standardized, you can ask if a double stroller fits through them. They'll know on there, and someone is likely to know how the TSA handles them, too.

About 5 months ago, I saw them wand a side by side and check it over. It was a double bob type so wide. It did not pass through the machines. I would give a little extra time depending on who is checking.

At the ticket counter, most airlines will take them, though I would suggest a bag of some sort.

Coming from Canada and we have to go through US Customs here, before we leave, we do have issues with the double strollers. US Customs will not let us take them on, they must be checked instead. Just a thought as I don't know what other airlines in the US may say. Just wondering though, why you would bring one of those huge strollers with you that are really just a pain to everyone else around. It's just not very practible when you think that other people want to get around too. I also have kids so understand that you need to be comfortable.

Our double BOB is very comfortable for my two small children to ride in and for dh and I to push. People use side by side double strollers all the time. How is it so inconvenient for others to be around? I don't run people over with it? People walk with two suitcases or holding the hands of two kids. Each scenario pretty wide?

And we have taken it to the park before but we drove last time.

Thanks for the info. I'll call the airline/airport. Part of the beauty is taking it through the airport for our 1 and 2.5 years old VS carrying/dragging them, carrying a carseat and our carry on luggage!! I REALLY hope they let us take it to the gate! Of course, worst case scenario, we check it and good thinking about the bag!!
