Ordering WDW Marathon shirt before trip

I'll be running my first Disney race in January. Is it possible to order a 2010 WDW Marathon technical shirt (not the "in training" shirt) and have it shipped to my house before the expo? I'm getting there several days before the expo and would like to have it going in to the trip.

I don't know if it's too early but I didn't see any merchandise information on the race site.

TIA!

As far as I know, the Marathon Weekend merchandise is not available before. There is no "store" or online store to buy it from. The first look you get is when you walk into the expo. Some stuff will also sell out. So, as a lot of us say here, if you see something you like, buy it. They usually will not have any of it later on or after the race. Like for instance, some people don't want to buy the "I did it t-shirt" before, but most of the time, after the race - they are all gone or they only have XL shirt left. Just buy it and through it in a bag and don't look at it again until you do it, after all it says you "did" it and not that you "finished" it. ;)

Tracy - Funny you mention throwing it into a bag. I just found a 1/2 shirt I bought last year sitting in a bag in my closet

Thanks, Tracy! :goodvibes

So aided with Tracy's insight I will by mine early!

last year I got to the Expo at around 4 pm on Thursday. They had a nice polo shirt for the Goofy - sure enough they didn't have any mediums. I mean the place wasn't open that long. Go figure. I ended up buying a visor and that's it.

good luck,
Duane

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like I'm out of luck until the expo. I was hoping to get a duplicate of the technical shirt with the WDW Mickey logo on it. I'll just have to get there early and hope for the best.

Hey, another question - does anyone know if they accept the Disney Rewards card (from the Disney Visa) at the Expo? I assume they accept the KTTW, right? Or do we need our regular credit card as there may be independent vendors?

Thanks,
Steve

The official merchandise cash registers will accept the same stuff you can use in the stores at Disney World. There are many independent vendors though so you will want to make sure you have a standard credit card for them.

Could be worse. I live in the UK and I'm coming across for the Goofy Callenge and the 5km. Was going to buy one of thise "In Training" shirts for around $35 but when it came to shipping and handling, the cost of that was actually more than the price of the shirt in the first place!

I've never worn a finisher shirt from a marathon yet - I treat them like the medals as a souvenir of the race and I don't want them worn out, damaged etc.

Don't like the way you can, at some events, buy the finisher gear before you've even run the race. Ran the Berlin marathon a year ago and you had to buy a finisher shirt for around $30 at the Expo and loads of people who weren't even running were wearing these. Does make a mockery of running a race and then getting to show off the fact you've done it!

The 'finisher' shirts should be included in the entry fee and given out at the end, IMO. So you know you earned it. I did a 150 mile bike ride last June, and though the entry fee was a little steep ($170) it included a jersey that had to be worn for the event and a 'finisher' shirt when you got to the end.

Duane, they didn't have any mediums at all! I was one of the first 2-300 through.

Most races that have finishers shirts do it that way. If they have merchandise at the end of the race I think they should be sold then. Many races don't have merchandise anywhere except the expo though, especially the smaller ones.

As far as someone wearing one that didn't do it, I look at it like the people that cut the course short. All they are doing is cheating themselves. I won't let their dishonesty ruin my achievement.

It would be nice if they sent out finisher shirts. They can have them at the end or mail them with certificates. I haven't seen this done yet though.

Hey i'm in exactly the same position- the shipping fees are very steep and I have found can't even purchase stuff from the US unless you have a US credit card. Had to rely on a wonderful WISHer to order me a Boston Marathon Hoodie this year! I'm slightly concerned that we won't get to the expo in time as we land thurs and we're doing 5km (mum and I) on fri and I'm doing full too so need packets (and lots of purchases obviously :) ). I'm always slightly relieved to see another crazy UK person flying to run at disney- see you at the marathon!

I always use those 'I did it' shirts as motivation- i won't wear the shirt unless I finish. I promise myself it will go in the bin if i don't get to the end. Worked a treat so far :rotfl: Medal, ghiradelli icecream and my t-shirt.... what more could a racer need?

AGREED!

I will not purchase an "I Did It" shirt for any event where the shirt is on sale BEFORE the event. I won't even wear a shirt for an event that I did not run in or volunteer for. It's bad mojo to claim a finish before you do the event or claim you even ran an event you didn't.

What Disney and other races should do is hand them out at the finish, merchandise them only at the finish area - post race or just don't sell them.

I ran San Antonio this weekend and saw an "I Finished" shirt in the family reunion area. It was obvious this person had not run the event. I was miffed enough about my performance that I was thinking what smart a$$ thing can I say ---- Then I saw the MGD 64 tent and problem solved!

AMEN!! I see people all the time at local races wearing the shirt during the race. Definately bad mojo to wear it without EARNING it.

Maybe its just me, but I wouldn't even think of buying a shirt for a race I didn't compete in. Now if they were selling different shirts to raise money for something (our local Turkey Trot does this) that would be different. But I wouldn't buy a finishers shirt if I didn't compete.

Just my 2cents.

I was speaking of the few 5/10k race shirts where I picked up the shirt a day or two pre-race and either failed to get up in time for the race or woke up to a downpour and said no way.

FYI:
I have said this before and will say it again.
The "I did it" shirts are available at the expo and WILL sell out. There have been some WISHers who were looking for these shirts after the Marathon weekend this year and they never got them.
WDW does not have FINISHER shirts. You get a shirt that advertises the race on the front. It doesn't say anything on it about finishing - right? So you get a shirt when you pay your race entry. You get a medal when you finish. The "I did it" shirt says I did it, not I finished it?? Just a thought.
My suggestion, buy the I DID IT shirt and place it in the bag and don't look at it until after you finish the race if you are worried about it. But, if you wait at the WDW marathon weekend until Sunday to get your I DID IT shirt, you may be very disappointed.

Good Luck,
Tracy

I agree that if you want a shirt saying "i did it" better get it at the expo. They WILL sell out in all but the small size. Like Tracey says you WILL be disappointed if you do not have one before the race. But I must disagree with the assertion that starting the event means you 'did' the event. Sorry, not very PC in my old school way of life.

Do – Verb
1. to perform (an act, duty, role, etc.): Do nothing until you hear the bell.
2. to execute (a piece or amount of work): to do a hauling job.
3. to accomplish; finish; complete: He has already done his homework.

I hate to see folks think they ran a marathon when they come up short in any way. One did not do the event. They participated in the event, they gave it their all, they worked their tail off, they left everything on the course but they did not do a marathon.

If you end up short on race day wear you race shirt with pride. Give glowing stories about the day, the effort, how you kept pushing through until you left the course. Marathoners love these stories and we all hate to hear that your were pedaling as hard as you could but it wasn’t your day. NaySayers will be nay sayers regardlees of how you do.
Frankly wearing a finisher shirt when one did not finish greatly diminishes the WISH Motto. DLF > DNF >> DNS This is a FORCEFUL motto that has meaing to even the most experienced runner.

if anything, having the "i did it" shirt tucked away prior to the race is incentive to finish...lol. I buy everything I want at the expo, learning the hard way at my first disney race (wanted the i finished pin at DL and didn't want bad mojo so didn't buy it at expo...couldn't find it after race...)

Yup, still wishing we had purchased the "I Did It" shirts for our first in 2006. Never had the same onces since. :sad1: Can you have a friend/family member buy them for you? We jsut coudl not jinx ourselves. Still, it was not a good choice.
