Ordering off kids menu?

I have read posts where kids above the Disney "kid age" can order off the kids menu but what about adults?

I'm not referring to the buffets, or fixed price menus but regular table service. Would I (age 55) be able to order a kids meal instead of a large adult sized meal?

Also, could my husband and I split an adult sized meal in lieu?

I had no trouble ordering off the kids menu at Sanaa, and at Sci Fi, and I’m also 55 and was travelling with only my husband.

I order quick service kids’ meals most of the time. Never had an issue. IMO…kids’ meals at most sit down restaurants are a step down, except for a few places. Sanaa is one that comes to mind that had some good stuff on the children’s menu.

I agree with PP that most kids meals at sit downs are not culinarily amazing, if you're super picky they make sense but I wouldn't go to a table service restaurant and order a kids meal to just get a smaller portion.

When I want something smaller, I usually just order a couple appetizers as my meal. That's also an option.

YMMV with this. My daughter is 12 and definitely looks a few years older than her age. We went to Skippers Canteen last trip and they let her order off the kids menu, but I had to pay extra for the food since she was over 10.

I haven't tried ordering off the kids menu at Table Service. I often do at QS, but it's because my appetite's a lot smaller. And yet, I've heard that when an adult orders off the kids menu at TS, they bring an adult portion of the kids meal and then they charge the same amount. Well, for me, the fact that they bring the adult portion defeats the whole purpose of me ordering the kids meal. So if I want the kids portion amount, I'll just do as mentioned previously-order an appetizer or two.

For CS many adults do there is never an issue that I have heard of and do this myself especially for breakfast and sometimes dinner after a large lunch. TS the best answer is to ask reports are all over the place from being charged more for the regular portion to getting an adult size to no issue at all. If you don’t like the answer order an app or split is fine although some non Disney owned may charge for this.

We split meals at a good number of TS last visit. It was hot and especially in the parks we didn’t want to be super full. It worked out well and we still had plenty of food.

When at a pool bar or mobile order I have ordered kids meals when I’m not too hungry. My wife has some food intolerance and at times has ordered off the kids menus as she like plain grilled chicken or something. One time the server just brought her a kids meal which was fine with her because she usually likes smaller portions. One time the waiter explained to her that he would have to charge her double and said tell me what your looking for and he bought her an adult serving of it and were charged full entree price which was nice for her.

My teens always order off kids menus at Disney table services and they usually charge double the price of the kids meal and bring double the food. That’s what I’ve found at least.
Do they ask if you want a double/larger portion or is that the only option? I'm sure some people order kids meals because they prefer their food more plain, but I would think many are ordering kids meals because they want a smaller size.

The only restaurants we had refuse to let anyone over 9 order off the kids menu were the Plaza, Tutto Italia and Via Napoli

We always just say “can we have the Mac and cheese or whatever off the kids menu for so and so teen?” And they say “sure we’ll bring you a double portion” and because for us it’s all about my older kids having the tastebuds of a toddler we never were concerned about portion size so we never asked. Id guess though you’d still have to pay more regardless of the size they bring otherwise they’d be losing out on money

They told us I'm bringing you a larger portion because I have to charge you more for ordering off the kids menu so I want you to get your moneys worth, something like that. It was a kind way of explaining that they were frowning upon adults ordering kids meals.

We went to “Summer House” last week .. end up going twice, it was that good ! Due to health issues, I’m under strict dietary orders right now. Their childrens menu was amazing, ( all day breakfast!) and I had no problems ordering from the kids menu, and the portions were definitely enough !

I have a 10 year old who will be ordering off the kids menu and wants the small portion, not a larger portion. I am curious about how much of an upcharge there is - I am seeing anywhere from a few dollars more to double on this thread - what do people find to be the going rate for an upcharge for a 10 year old? I understand why they do it, and I am fine with it, rules are rules. I am just trying to plan the food budget. (Truthfully I wish they were kids until 12 but that's a different thread!)
