Ordering more than one entree at a meal

I am not a huge eater, but the portions are smaller than regular restaurant size. I ordered a couple appetizers most of the time, and ordered 2 entrees one night - both the risotto and the lobster. Don't intentionally over order just to be wasteful, but do order something safe and something "risky" to try new flavors!

MY husband andI will order our entree, then get a 3rd to share. We do order all the desserts and then taste/eat them all :lmao:

Sometimes, there is a side dish on one entree that I really want, but the server ends up bringing the whole entree because it is already plated, thus easier to bring out. I do feel bad about wasting that piece of lamb or fish that was sitting next to the side dish.

On one of our Magic cruises, my DH and DS-i-l each ordered "double" at our servers suggestion. They got double the entree, but not extra veggies, etc.

My favorite dessert is the celebration cake served on the last night of a 7 day. On this same cruise, I surprised everyone by ordering "double" celebration cake!

Wow, if I order an appetizer and a first course with the entree, I rarely finish it all and almost never have room for dessert. I don't think the portions are small at all!

There are certain appetizers I wait for and when they're on the menu, I order two! I've also ordered two lobster tails on Captain's night (no waste at all, trust me). Sometimes we'll order an extra entree or two for the three of us to try (this is on top of our own entrees).

Also, I have asked them for extra entrees MINUS the extras (veggies, side dishes, etc.) so we can try the steak or fish or whatever.

Dinner was a really great time to try new things that I normally wouldn't have ordered. Our server was great with suggestions and brought us out extra entrees, desserts, etc to try.

We've had servers who routinely brought us what we ordered AND what they thought we should have ordered so we could try it. They weren't being rude or pushy, just presenting the chance to try something different.

You can order as much of anything as you wish!

So is it better to ask for a variation (just the side of something we want to try)...or just to go ahead and order two full entrees pre-plated and eat what we want from them. Isn't that easier for the server?

You are on vacation. Order whatever you want - provided you don't waste it. No-one ever seemed to mind and my server even encouraged it when I commented on how wonderful another entree looked at our table. I would say the serving sizes are "normal", but smaller than what has become a typical serving size in a restaurant these days, which is too big.

Hi All!

I say order whatever you want, but eat what you take (echoing the don't be wasteful vibe :-), and if you run your servers legs off asking for extras be sure to tip accordingly.

It isn't rude as they plan for it and the fresh food that is brought aboard but unused at the end of the trip will be discarded before the next sailing. Likewise, any meals plated or food prepared but unserved won't be making another appearance at the table ( I seem to remember from taking the kitchen tour that it might be made available to the staff after the meal period but can't be sure.)

On our first Disney cruise to Mexico in '05 the DH was so excited about getting lobster in an upcoming meal (He loves him some dead sea bug!) that he mentioned it at the table on the first night within (unknowingly) earshot of our server Clive. On Captain's Gala night we arrived at dinner to find two lobster tails on each of our plates. The rest of our group was sure surprised.

I also use the menu to try new things reasoning that if they do it well, and I don't become a fan then I just might not like it period. I tried escargot, the garlic and butter was nice (isn't it always?) but otherwise it was nothing special.

Enjoy your vacation. The fun... The food... But most of all... The experience!

Take care all, help lots of people and have a "Wonder"ful day!

I agree. If I plan on dessert, I only ever order an entree and then either an appetizer or soup/salad. Otherwise I am stuffed.

I'm a pig so I order like 3 appetizers, 1 soup, and 3 entrees....and yes I eat it all. unless its not good like the lobster/pasta dish I got at Tritons on the wonder...

and yes I do order all the desserts :rolleyes1

I love food. :sad2:

You really need to try and order everything at the beginning. The window for the courses are limited and once they are all served, getting another can take awhile (or not even available). If you think you are going to want two entrees, order them at time of taking the orders, not when you realize you really wanted to try the pasta but you see desserts are coming out.
