I have seen a lovely bag from Dooney & bourke I want to buy if I order from them do I pay 17 percent on the total cost of the bag and postage? Also is there a handling fee from the delivery company? TIA

The charges for importing can vary quite a lot depending upon the delivery service used.

I remember being charged far more then I expected once when I bought a DVD boxset from Amazon.com.

Sorry I don't know exact details.

You can get it from the customs and excise site as to what the % VAT is depending on the goods you are ordering, in addition the Royal Mail charge a fee for handling the goods - when my DD last ordered an American Girl doll we paid the cost and postage from the USA plus about £17 tax plus about £20 handling fee from the Royal Mail.

The most you can spend without having to pay the extra customs stuff is about £18 inc postage. Obviously that won't make any difference to you, but thought it might come in handy one day.

Thanks everyone!!

Oh i do love those American girl dolls, I will be shipping one to our resort next trip!:)
