ordering a la carte

I read a tip on Mousesavers.com that one way of saving money on food at Disney is to order a la carte. She even mentioned that the cashiers have buttons on their registers for things like an extra bun or a slice of cheese. I have a very picky 11 year old son who lives on chicken nuggets or chicken strips which is great since most counter service have these. However, they are always in a combo with fries and he will not touch fries. Does anyone know if you can just order the chicken nuggets at a reduced price? Thanks.

You can substitute the fries out for apples, carrots, or grapes if he'll eat any of those. Or, ask for the chicken nugget meal without the fries. I doubt they will reduce the price though.

Your 11 year old will be ordering from the adult menus so you don't need to ask to order a la carte. You can just do so. You should also be fine ordering Chicken Nuggets or Chicken Strips, and ordering the sides that he chooses.

The "extra bun," thing is outdated. I heard that they are now charging close to $2.00 to order it. I would look at the menus at allears.net so that you can realistically budget what you'll need for meals.

Here is an example from Cosmic Rays at MK:

Chicken Nuggets (6 pieces) served with apple slice or french fries $6.89

Chicken Nuggets (8 pieces) served with apple slice or french fries $7.69

You can see that he can choose apple slices over fries, or you can eat the fries.

Have a wonderful trip! :cool1:

If you are paying cash (no dining credits) you may order what you like, and they will charge accordingly. Everything has an ala carte price so no worries about things he won't eat.

Its not a good value to order ala carte, but there should be no waste either.

Disney must have started to catch on that a lot of people were ordering a double burger and getting the extra bun to basically avoid buying two single meals. This was a good option for those looking to save money and it should still be a savings, just not as good I guess?

Slightly off topic...but you can save money feeding young children by purchasing an 8 piece Nugget meal rather than 2 - 6 piece meals. I'm pretty sure you can grab a drink ala carte for the 2nd child.

We did this when our kids were 5 yrs old and 17 months old. As many mom's know, a Happy Meal only has 4 nuggets in it anyway. ;)

Back on Topic though....you can bring plastic baggies and take the apples or grapes with you for a snack later in the day. :)

You can order the chicken nuggets without the fries. I do it all the time with burgers and hot dogs. My husband will get a basket with fries and then I just get a sandwich and we share the fries. At Disney, they will bend over backwards to make sure you are happy. If there's something you don't want, just ask for it without.
