Orbitz is making me mad

I was able to get my room with the Disney discount as well as an additional 15% off through Orbitz. However, I found a 20% off and when I went to plug it in, it isn't promotional code eligible. Wow, it was for 15% but not 20%.

So are you saying that not meeting the terms and conditions that apply to the larger discount are making you mad? Nobody is forced to purchase from any specific company. If the room rate offered by Orbitz and the discount code that can be combined with it make you mad, book the room through a different source.

Too bad you could jump on FD when it was offered. I'm saving 800 the way we eat. We always book through Disney when discounts are released.

You're lucky you can use any Orbitz discount on a WDW hotel. And on top of a WDW discount at that. Many resorts and hotels aren't even eligible for that discount.

In the future book your reservations directly through Disney, it is most efficient and fail-safe way to ensure your reservations are booked correctly, linked to MDE, and at the best available rates and promotional discounts.. There is really no need to online travel agencies when it comes to WDW resorts..

Yes, there is a need. First, if an online travel agency has a promotion, such as the 15% the OP used, it can be used for any WDW resort with availability, including those that are excluded from Disney's promotions. I have used a 20% code for POFQ when Disney wasn't offering any discount on POFQ. Second, you can often stack discounts with online travel agencies. Typically, they price match any general public promotions Disney offers, and then you can apply the OTA code on top. So I have often booked a 30% off Disney promotion stacked with a 20% OTA code, which gave me greater savings than the 35% AP or Fla Res discount I could get through Disney direct. Last, if you have your heart set on a particular resort and Disney is sold out, the OTA may still have inventory left - you may only be able to use the OTA code if there is one available, but there are people who will only go if they can stay at a particular resort and this is another avenue to get them there.

I am not saying a person should only book with an OTA or only with Disney. The smart traveler will check out both to see where they can get the best price on the resort they want. I would say about half of my trips are booked direct and about half with an OTA - depending on when I am going and what discounts may, or may not, be available. To the OP, you can run into issues booking either way - there will always be some discounts that apply to your resort, or your dates, and some that don't. Just look for the best deal you can.

Many of the recent codes released by Orbitz now have a cap on the total discount. Of the recent 15% off codes some have a $150 total discount per booking and others have a $500 total discount per booking. Other than a couple of 48 hour codes, the last code I received by email that has no cap was back in February.

Are those figures including Disneys room discount or is only the extra Orbitz gives capped?

How do you go about linking a resort to MDE, if you book through an independent site like Orbitz??

Orbitz gives you a reservation code that you can enter into MDE. One word of caution their cancellation policy is not exactly the same as booking direct with Disney. You need to cancel 5 days before not 24 hours if you want a full refund. In most cases this isn't a big deal but a family member had to cancel 3 days before due to a death in the family and only got 25% back and would have gotten 100% back had they booked direct.

Good to know. Thank you! :thumbsup2
