Orbitz.com - Beware!!!!!!!!

I would call SWA with my credit card ASAP!! Too good to pass up!:bounce: :bounce:

Aren't you glad sometimes for indecision? Glad you looked around some more. Betcha would have been kicking yourself silly if you bought the $98 connecting flights (adding almost 3 hrs each way) when you could have gotten non-stop for $6 LESS!!!

So, how you going to spend the savings? Do you realize you could afford to eat at Victoria & Alberts!!!

So, excited for you! Love great deals!:bounce: :bounce:

Gosh, from where I live, there IS no such thing as a direct flight! ;) I'd gladly take the connecting flights and use the $$ I'm saving for something at WDW. I can always justify spending my savings somewhere. . . LOL

The fact is you simply can't trust the results of Orbitz fare searches. That's because they do TWO searches

The first search is just for FARES.

The second search is for AVAILABLE SEATS AT THAT FARE.

So when you see a great fare and click to book you may get a message that says that the fare went away "while you were searching." Hah!

A lot of people have reported this kind of thing and it's happened to me. If it looks like bait and switch and it smells like bait and switch....

Kelly --

That's pretty much what JetBlue said, except you explained it much better than they did.

The other wierd thing that happened to be with Orbitz is: I was trying to get a fare on USAir through them for $109. Orbitz said the site was busy, and to try again. I clicked out, and immediately tried again, and the fare had jumped to $159. Since, in that short amount of time I called my mom and promised to visit Labor Day weekend (because the fare was so cheap), I went over to Delta and ended up with a fare of $111. But, how could a fare jump $50 in five minutes?

I'm glad other people have had success with Orbitz, but I'd rather use Expedia or Travelocity.

Orbitz has the best user interface in the industry. It's so easy to compare different airlines, connection possibilities, etc. I go there and tweek itineraries all the time to check out what my options are. Be aware, though, that they don't always have the lowest fares. Yesterday, I bought 2 tix on Delta Express, EWR(Newark, NJ)-MCO, Aug 11-16. I wanted direct flights and an AM departure from EWR, a late-afternoon departure from MCO. Orbitz had the flights I wanted for $189. Delta.com had it for $163.75, plus double skymiles. Naturally, I took that one - today I rechecked and Delta.com had upped the route to $188.75, but I got the low rate! Yay! Check every possible place - Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, airline sites! You never know!

Finally.......

Placed my airfare with Southwest at $92/rt NON STOP! Yahoo!

The poor CSR was laughing at all the questions I asked her regarding the fare. She asked if I ever got burned before. I told her about US AIR/ORBITZ!

I mentioned this air rate to my boss and some other co-workers and people were placing trips to WDW like crazy!

The earlier post recommended Victoria's for dinner! I will definitely consider! However, since it's my DH's birthday while in WDW, I'm going to book an Illuminations cruise and a 1/2 day of Men's beauty at DI! That will surely offset my savings but well worth it.

Thanks for all the great advise and constructed critisim! I'm still quite "gun shy" about air travel other than booking them with the carriers directly, but who knows maybe I'll grow.....

Thanks for this post Laura et al!! We were going to book through Orbitz tonight and now I know what to look for as far as problems go...... maybe I'll try using the airlines directly.
