Orange Lake - RCI Exchange - HELP!

We have two weeks exchanged through RCI into Orange Lake. I called to ask when to call and who to talk to to try to request that the units be in the north section and, if possible, that we be in the same unit both weeks so that we didn't have to move. I was told at first that the north section only had studios. Then I was told they didn't have a kiddie pool in the north section. Then she said my room numbers and had to look up where they were at. Of course their in the older west section, units 2315 and 2352 - we have to move. I was told there was NOTHING that could be done about it!!! Ugh!! I'm not going to spend this much money on a vacation to stay in a yuck unit. Where have other peopled called when making an RCI exchange to get a decent unit?? Somebody HELP! I'm thinking I should just cancel and rent a house somewhere even if we lose these bonus weeks.

I have read on Tug that if you call and make a request for a certain area and are told no that you should call back in a day or two and the next person may be willing to put a request in.

Also, when checking in, ask to be changed to different area and they will try to accomodate you.

If you put this question on Tug, Vickie will respond and she knows Orange Lake well.

We will be staying at OLCC (as an exchange) in a 3 bedroom from November 26-December 5. We will also have a car.

We've been owners at Orange Lake since 1992 (we bought on our honeymoon) - we own one of the 'older' villas. We have used our week just about every year and are always extremely happy to be there. Our unit is a 2 bedroom with 2 baths, the one in the master has a jacuzzi tub. We also have a full kitchen with a washer and dryer. Granted, the 'older' units aren't as spiffy as the ones that were just built, but they are just as nice. They constantly rehab the properties and we've never had a problem with our unit - I take that back - once the air conditioning wasn't working - so they moved us to another unit - just for the night, so we would be more comfortable. All we took was an overnight bag and we were back in our unit the next morning.

I have nothing but good things to say about Orange Lake. I have sent a few friends down and they've come back with positive remarks. Yes, Orange Lake is extremely vast and you do need a car for ease of movement. Our unit is situated on Lake Kem Way and we always drive to the North Village to use the pool. Our kids think it's our 'second' home! I don't mind the drive to the parks (an easy 10-20 minutes, depending on traffice on 192) and we've learned to navigate our way around and take the back roads and scenic routes (the long way) to places.

Have a great time and I hope you enjoy yourself at Orange Lake -there's lots to do!

I actually like the older section of the villas. There's alot to be said about not having to listen to someone elses footsteps all day ( and night). Also I love to sit out on the patio. And you get to park right in front of your unit. NO elevators to wait for...

JS: All 3 bedrooms are in the newer seciton.

Is there more information on TUG than the RCI website and tripadviser? Just wondering before I spend the $.

On Tug you'll get honest answers and good feedback. If you join (for $15 a year) you get access to their reviews. I learned sooo much from them before I bought or traded my timeshares. I think the reviews on RCI and tripadvisor are less informative.

We stayed in an 'old' unit last month. I agree with another poster, I enjoyed the single level and ability to park in front of the unit.

They were rehabbing units in the 'old' section. The complex is so big you'll have to drive somewhere. We had no problems driving to the North Village to use the Splash Lagoon. Don't get caught up in all of the hype - it's a big, well kept resort.

We own a 2 bedroom golf villa but traded weeks last week and they put us into the newer highrise building. I had originally requested the highrise so I could see what it was like. However, they said that they do not take requests for the new sections. I liked the lanai in the highrise because its screened in, but otherwise there is no real difference between the two. Though, my mom liked the golf villa much better for the same reasons stated. Only one level, no climbing stairs, more private feel. Its a great place and all rooms are really great so have a super time!!!

Try arriving at OLCC before the "official" check-in rush. They might be able to honor your request.

This past May I was told at check-in they could not change my location. I was told if I didn't like the location that I should call the reservation department after check-in. After check-in I went to my condo which was one of the older golf villas. I immediately called reservations and was switched to one of the newer units by Splash Lagoon.
