Oprah's Secret - Possible Spoilers!

The "big secret" was revealed earlier today. Kind of a letdown for me.

And since you put the spoiler warning, I'll say...it's especially touching to me because I met my half sister for the first time this summer (and I'm 43).

Okay, so where has this half sister been all these years? Her mother had this baby and gave her away - is that the story? I missed the first half of the show. And I didn't know that Oprah had a sister that died from drug addiction.

Okay, some of my answers just got told on the show - I should just have kept watching a while longer! It's weird that Oprah's sister and her half sister had the same name! Her half sister seems really nice. I hope it all works out.

Yes, Oprah's mother gave her up for adoption at birth. The sister searched for her birth family as an adult and in a weird twist saw a news show with a feature about Oprah's mother that gave some family information that matched the file she had received on her birth parents and family.

What a cute lady she is and what lovely children. It's nice to see some of Oprah's family, too.

Yes, he is - although there is speculation that someone else might be. I don't think it's been proven, though. A friend told me it was discussed in the Kitty Kelley bio on Oprah a few years ago.

I liked the show but you can tell Oprah hasn't done much bonding with her new siblling. She's a very slow to trust woman; I guess I understand why. However, if someone had known they were my sister for 3.5 years and not capitalized on it, I think I'd be trusting them.

For me, at least, it has been a long process. I knew my half sister existed, but didn't know if I would ever get to meet her. She didn't know my brother and I existed until just a couple of years ago.

It's a very strange feeling. I'm a pretty private person and maybe that's why it is taking a while for me, but while I do love her, I don't feel close to her yet. We don't see eachother, though, just talk - and mainly by text and facebook.

ETA: We did meet and spent a really nice afternoon at the beach and then a great dinner out this summer, but haven't seen eachother since then.

You don't think that your mother having another child you never knew about (and that she's YOUNGER than you), and finding out when you're 56, is a big family secret??

I was really impressed how Patricia has handled this entire situation. Other people would have found an angle to make money and humiliate the family. And all she wants is to know her family.

I thought it was sweet how Oprah was trying to talk with her mom and sister and facilitate some conversation btw them. I wonder how much her stroke affected her emotional side as she seemed to have a flat affect. Or maybe it was the embarrassment of the situation. But Oprah seemed very compassionate towards Patricia and the entire story of how she found her family was amazing.

Just curious - other than Oprah herself having a surviving child or a different father, what else could it have been? What would have been a big secret for you?
