The Titanic had problems on it's maiden voyage.

The kinks have to be worked out of a new ship somehow. Being "stuck" on an enclosed ship isn't my thing.

Getting kinks worked out is called Sea trials. New ships do a lot of sailing without real cruisers before the official maiden voyage happens!

She some times "host" groups that she like one year it was all teachers. I think this year it was all people who "volunteer". they never know at the begininng if its the gift show.

Thanks! I'm glad to hear it's people who deserve it for something they have done.

Her Monday show will likely focus on families 100K in debt from buying expensive gifts they couldn't afford.

I know a woman on that show, and she and her family most definitely DO NOT fit this description. She's been very tight lipped about what they actually received (as she was told to be). I am very excited for her! And, can't wait to see what she got.

Does anyone know how the audience members were chosen?

My friend (on Monday's show) responded to a request on Oprah's website to nominate an unsung hero from her hometown. My friend nominated another friend who is teacher in an inner city neighborhood. My friend and her nominee were then invited to attend a show on unsung heros and sit in the audience (at their expense, they bought plane tickets and hotel). She had no idea that this would occur, and really did it to highlight the good work of her friend. I think it's awesome. The show taped on November 16, the second show taped on that day.

No, that was very helpful. I've always wondered about this. When people say that the recipients don't have to worry because the giver is also paying the tax, it has always been very confusing to me. It just seemed that, somehow, the recipient is going to have to pay some tax!

My friend was told that what she received is taxable, and that some tax payment (at least) was being made on their behalf by the show. Obviously, a lot of details are lacking, even for her. It will be interesting to see how it plays out over time. I also know that not all the gifts are being "received" in this tax year. She said that some of the stuff is coming as late as a year from now. I have no idea what any of it is though! LOL!

Does anyone know how the audience members were chosen?

On Oprah's website, they will ask for certain people for certain situations. Apparently these people made a difference in other people's lives.

I heard she surprised the 2nd audience, by making them watch the people carry their goodies out of the studio. She did this on purpose, making them think they missed out on the "Giveaway show". On Monday, she gets the audience in, and surprises them, and tells them, she is doing another day of Giveaway's.

I was going to stay home instead of going to the YMCA on Friday, but I went. Envy for me is a deadly sin. Just makes me want to cry, seeing all those giveaways.
