Opportunity to increase profits even more?

Dollar General and $1.25 tree doing well makes no sense to me. They are in no way cheaper than Walmart. Most of the products that are cheaper are in smaller containers so you really aren't saving money. They only reason I can see for Dollar General to be doing well is that they have greatly expanded in rural areas making it easier for people to stop there for a gallon of milk or loaf of bread. They are like the Starbucks of the rural community, they are everywhere now lol.
Some people choose those stores because they don't like Walmart. I worked with a guy who hated Walmart. But with three teenaged boys drinking a gallon of milk a day, and with Walmart selling milk for $1.50 a gallon less than his neighborhood chain store, he was saving over $500 a year on just milk!! And the kicker, his neighborhood chain store owned their own dairy.......AND they also bottled all Walmart's milk! One of his kids schools did a field trip to the dairy. The jugs all come off the line without labels. Then they went to the labeling plant where they wanted a bunch get the store brand label, and a bunch with Great Value labels. If you look at the coding on the jugs, same on both. I have had some argue that Walmart milk is inferior. Not sure how that is possible, milk is milk.

That's a relief.

The NY Post has an article about US farmers in crisis due to the tariffs. Farmers going out of business, longshoremen and truck drivers thrown out of work...and that's from the conservative media... (The NY Times' stuff is behind a paywall but I assume it would be even more dire...)

The Chinese people are also used to having less say in economic matters. Our consumers might be louder even if it's only that our kids have to make do with 93% fewer dolls.

We'll see...
Chinese-made plastics may present safety concerns due to potential presence of harmful chemicals like phthalates and heavy metals, so
I would be glad to see less of the Chinese plastic junk imported for kids. I cringe when I see babies and small children chewing on or sleeping with some of these toys that contain cancer causing materials. Even our bedding, furniture, clothes etc is filed with these toxic chemicals, even more so when imported from countries with no regulations on safety.

Looks like China is caving already. Chinese factories are closing or pausing production due to the impact of U.S. tariffs.
Protests by workers demanding back wages are spreading across China in a sign of growing discontent among millions suffering the brunt of factory closures, triggered by steep U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports amid an economic downturn
They have a lot more to lose then we do and they are hurting already!

So you're happy that the factories churning out toxic filled plastic toys for our kids is going to be back in business? Did you change your mind about that since May 2nd?

I wouldn’t buy Chinese plastic for my kids, but I’m glad we live in a country where parents are free to choose how to raise their own children. But I’m very happy that the US is finally cracking down on China’s unfair trade practices, and US companies now stand a chance of becoming the manufacturing powerhouses we once used to be. I’m surprised so many people seem to be wishing failure for our country instead of cheering a more reciprocal relationship with our trade partners. I’m glad now it’s a more level playing field and that good paying jobs will be coming back to the US again, where there are more rules and regulations on harmful toxic chemicals used in toys, clothing etc
