I think the thing about an opinion is, it all depends on your life's perspective. Take the divorce thread -- if you're in a relatively happy marriage, you think people are bailing out way too easily. If you're in (or were in) a miserable marriage, you can't see why anyone would stay, regardless of "integrity" and "vows" and other people's opinions on the matter. Walk a day in someone else's shoes, and you'd have a different opinion.

I had a different opinion about how many pounds of ground beef needed for tacos and I was almost afraid to post it! Hopefully it will be okay. The jury's still out though - the OP could still come back and say I was being rude and nasty!

I think you are right another thing I would really like to point out that while it may be a different opinion some people forgot that what is works for one family or person may not work for another. Also that just b/c one person or family doesn't do things your way doesn;t mean it is wrong, just a different way. And b/c of that some people argue their opinion or views and try to cram them down someone else with out considering that it is just a different way. my point is just state your opinion instead of keep coming back over and over and trying to get someone to convert to your way of thinking in a neg. way. I'm not saying a good debate is not good just in the way you deliver it is the main difference and if you can back it up would really help. But again I want to emphasize that tact goes a long way and something that can be done a different doesn;t mean the person who is doing something in a different way than you would is a bad person but they are doing the way they think is best.

What drives me nuts is when people will hear a different opinion and they start with "this is America and I'm entitled to free speech."

Oh for crying out loud. People need to understand that THAT means they won't be thrown in JAIL for expressing their opinion. It does not mean they are immune to being told they are an idiot for expressing their opinion.

I don't take offense that someone doesn't share my opinion. They are entitled to be wrong.

Okay, here's MY opinion.

I love reading other people's opinions and WHY they think what they think. If they can't tell me why they think one way, then I can't possibly continue the conversation.


Here's a great example. On another Disney board, I was really mad that our state counts children as being a person in a carpool lane. Our carpool lanes are congested and this made no sense to me. It isn't like the children are going to go out and drive their own car. But, a dear friend kindly explained to me that in her case, she was driving 5 kids who otherwise would be driven individually by their own parents, thus taking four other cars off the road. It changed my mind on the subject. (Well, except when the one parent driving is the parent of all of the kids, but you can't really check that, now can you?)

But to just go off on someone because they have a different opinion than you do is a sign of low intelligence, and that's just my opinion, of course.
