Please tell me I did the right thing. We are going to WDW for Labor Day weekend. We originally planned the trip to return home the day before school started. Flights were much cheaper than flying home a day earlier so we basically could stay that night for "free". Well, DD#2 struggles in school and anxiety is starting to kick in. I did the adult thing and booked our flights home a day early so she could relax and regroup before school starts. I think in my heart I did the right thing but man it really stinks being the adult.:headache:

Any teachers out there that want to weigh in whether you think this is better or if we would be ok squeezing in the extra day?

As a teacher I can tell you that the first day is just going over the rules and establishing what they will need to do that year. As an anxious student, I might worry about missing that crucial day however so I think your decision was a good one. As a WDW lover myself I would be sad too, which is why we are missing two days a month after school starts to go on our trip!

I'm a teacher, but I'm answering this as a mom.

Your daughter struggles in school. She's already anxious. You gave her a day when she didn't have to worry about the flight being delayed or something else causing her to miss the first day.

Whether or not the first day is important isn't the question. It's your daughter's perception that counts.

You did a great thing for your daughter. You gave her the gift of peace, of not stressing out throughout her vacation.

Nice work mom.:thumbsup2

I'm a mom and a teacher and I would go with your original plan. I think that being on vacation and traveling would be great for taking your DD's mind off her school anxiety.

Thank you for the replies! We plan to come home the day early for now. We will see how the summer goes and how she feels but I feel pretty good about this decision. It is a little disappointing but as some of you said, better a stress free vacation than a slightly longer one! Thanks again!

Great move. :goodvibes I know when I was a kid I would feel anxious and not part of my class if I missed the first day.
