I received two food processors for Christmas and have to decide which to keep and which to return.

DH gave me a Hamilton Beach that I picked out at K-Mart. I have never used one before so I picked an inexpensive one to try for a few years. Everything stores inside it and it looks adequate for my needs.

MIL gave me a Cuisinart. Probably a better machine but I don't think the blades store inside it. May be more than I need and probably cost more. Hers may be harder to exhange because I will have to shop in a department store where I don't usually shop.

I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings but I don't need two.

Anyone have any experience with either of these and have any opinions on what I should do. (I am so wishy-washy.)

Keep the Cuisinart...*much* better quality than the HB.

Well, I was immediately drawn to this thread because I love giving my opinion;) I'm a bit disappointed though because I know less than nothing about food processors.

Give the dh a big hug and a kiss, tell him you like his gift but you do not wish to offend MIL therefore you will return his gift to the Walmart.. then ask would he like to get you something else? If not be a sweetheart and get yourself something and get dh something too. Ya.. I like to keep as many people happy as I can too! True people pleaser in me..

I love to give my opinion......

I'd keep the Cuisinart one...it will last forever....your DH will understand, won't he?

Heck, keep both and we'll use one as a doorprize at the Riddlers' meet....

..yeah.....I'm okay.....minor head injury.....LOL....

Rule of gift returning #1

If you can, keep the presents from the MIL.......

Here's hoping that the new year finds you utilizing the added features of your fancy Cuisinart machine. ;)

MIL wins hands down........ better quaility..... but I would check and see about the blades......... storing them inside would be a plus.........

Good luck and keep us posted.......

Take the Cuisinart!!!

My DMIL was giving hers away to the poor people (which was us at the time) and I love this thing! WE've had it about 5 years now and it is GREAT!....

Tell DH you love him and that you picked out the wrong one(I mean you picked it out and he bought it for you so why should he care?...He got you what YOU wanted not necessarily what he would have bought you.

Anyway good luck!

HC

I'd keep the Cuisinart. I've had mine for 8 years and I absolutely couldn't live without it. I probably use it every day. (Today I used it to shred cheese, yesterday I used it to chop nuts)
Reason #2- I wouldn't want to return MIL's gift!!

I learned long long ago - never try to return anyhing that MIL bought - just trust me;)

Thanks for everyone's opinions. I am leaning (currently) toward keeping MIL's Cuisinart, mostly because it is apparently the better quality one. DH won't mind. He just wants me to have what I want.

I will let you know when one actually goes back to the store.

Hi Carol. I have to agree with the majority, I think I would keep the Cuisinart. To be sure I would open them up and compare the features and see which one suites my needs best. Good luck with your decision.

Hi Breezy! I vote for the Cuisinart too. I've had mine for about 27 years. Use it a lot, for all kinds of things, and never had a problem with it. I have a rack for the blades that is mounted on the wall inside a cupboard so they are out of the way, use wasted space and are still handy.

I agree that you're making the right decision by keeping your MIL's gift. Not only will it be better the next time she's over at your house and you need to use a food processor, but it's a much better product. I'm usually very frugal, but food processors, mixers, and blenders are much better when they're high quality.
