Opinions requested--National Parks

My wife and I were on St. Geroge's street in St. Augustine. That's a neat place. Actually, the whole town is kinda neat and the peeeples are very friendly. Enough of a plug for St. Augustine, on with opinions needed.

I met a senior citizen (I am more senior) who had a 5th wheel and said "you should get a Senior National Park Pass. It's only $10 and you are permitted to visit these national parks along with anyone in your car for free. For RV camping you only pay 1/2 of the rate.

This sounds great, but there are always pluses and minuses.

Your opinions either positive or negative are welcome. I had no idea this existed.

My mom is a senior and has the senior national park pass. You have to be 62 to get it - we took my mom to Ft. Necessity, our nearest national park, on her 62nd birthday to get her pass.

Last summer the whole family took advantage of my mom. We went on a trip to the southwest and hit Grand Canyon (north & south rims), Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks. Since all of us were in one car, with my mom, we all got in for free. Traveling with my mom saved us $75 - I'll take that!

The pass is good for up to 3 extra adults (my dad, my husband and me), my kids were free and my sister and brother-in-law are national park rangers so they get in for free.

The pass is a lifetime pass, not an annual one so $10 is it. I think that's a good deal in and of itself if your travel plans take you to our national parks.

I see that you are out in Lebanon, PA - in the direction of Gettysburg. The national park pass is not good at the visitors center there cause ticketing is through the Gettysburg Foundation rather than NPS. Hope that helps!

I just got mine like 3 weeks ago and it wavys the per vehicle fee and for places for a per person fee it allows the pass holder and up to 3 adults free admission. It does have some restrictions on camping fees, etc. but for a one time $10 cost you can't beat it IMO. You can get it at any NP that charges a fee.

I was born and raised in St. Augustine!

Did you get some good fudge while on St. George St.?

This a neat place (St. Aug)---I did not get fudge and my wife and I love fudge. We had some great pizza, but the catch of the day, at the south end of St. George's Street was a spice store. You name it they have it.

I posted about having two meals at the WRECK restaurant in Marathon (Keys), made with Jamaican Jerk.

A quadruple woohoo. This lil store had JAMAICAN JERK. Please, pretty please DW Shirley, buy this for me. She's the best.

My DH got his Senior Pass this past fall at the first exit on 95 after you enter Georgia coming from Florida. Don't remember the town but it was very convenient to get to and was right on the shore so it was a nice day trip. It saved us some $$ this winter when we went out West; one time was at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. No charge to get in. We figured for $10 it was worth the price.
