Hi
We are looking into purchasing into DVC in the near future but are unsure of what resort to call "home". At the moment, we are a family of 3. 2 adults and a 7 year old who is disabled. She is non-verbal/ non-mobile and in a wheelchair. i realize that no pools at these resorts are zero entry.... but we usually only use the queit pools anyhow.
Does anyone have any good advice/ direction for us!
Thanks

Hi,

I am also in a wheelchair. I love Disney/DVC!!!! Mom has been a member since 7/2003!!! We brought @ the beach club when it was available through Disney. I don't swim but liked the look of the pool & the decor of the room. I don't think you'll have much trouble booking vacation. I haven't had trouble. If you need a quiet pool you might want to look into resale @ Old Key West, they have one. Call DVC & talk to a guide too. Someone else will know if the other resorts have quiet pools. The rooms are very accessible through!!!! Good Luck!

The pool at SSR will be a zero entry pool so you may want to look into purchasing there.

Saratogo will have a zero entry pool I've heard.

As of right now, DVC members can pool hop and the Polynesian pool, if I remember correctly, is zero entry.

I'd definitely want a resort with good elevator access. That would be VWL, BCV, and Saratogo Springs. Boardwalk only has one set of elevators and if you're on the end, it's a long hike to the elevators. Old Key West only has elevator access in a few buildings.

VWL and BCV would be available only through resale. Saratoga would be available from Disney.

Good luck and hugs to your little one from me.

We've been members at OKW for 10 (coming up soon to 11 years). Even though only a few buildings have elevators, we have not had a problem getting either a ground floor room or one of the elevator buildings.
There are two nice things about OKW. One is that you can park right out in front of your building. It more like a luxury condo commuity than a hotel. The other big thing that we like about OKW is the size of the units. The one and two bedroom units are huge and no problem getting around in a wheelchair anywhere in the villa, even when you have the sofa bed in the living room open. We have stayed at BVC and at VWL. While they were very nice, we found them to be quite tight for DD's wheelchair (a very narrow adult wheelchair).

Interesting! I know the rooms are ideal for a wheelchair or ECV, but I would have expected everyone to say a hotel setting was easier. So glad you have had good results at OKW. We have needed 1st floor or elevator buildings the past two trips too, and have had good luck getting them also.

We always make sure that our confirmation says "First floor or building with elevator for Medical Reasons."
When we stayed at VWL, we were down a long hall from the elevator. Our room was facing the courtyard just toward the front of the resort from the quiet pool. So when we came back from the boat to MK, we had to walk about 100 yards past our window to get to the door into the villa building. That brought us close to the elevators, but then when we got upstairs, we had to walk donw the hall to our room. So, each time we went out, we ended up walking many extra steps just to get to and from the elevator. Same thing at BCVs. It was not bad for us pushing DD's wheelchair, but my FIl has mobility problems (and has not given in yet to renting an ecv). He had a hard time at VWL and much prefers OKW since where ever you are located, it's a fairly short walk to a bus stop.

IMHO the zero entry pool at SSR is just what you need. That combined with the fact that there will be elevators in the buildings and the resort has 50 year contracts instead of the 38 at the other resorts, makes SSR seem perfect fpr your needs.
