I love to read many of the DIS boards, but it becomes very tedious due to excessively long signatures. I love the countdown clocks, but people list 43 previous trips (each on a single line), embed graphics, and state everything but their mother's maiden name down below. The end result is it can take up so much space that only 2-3 posts end up on some pages. It makes reading very tedious to get to the real part of the post (especially if they quoted excessively as well.

So the question for this forum - Should the signature line be limited to a small number of lines to improve the flow of the messages and reduce the History Channel nature of some people's signatures?

We bought a new cmputer 3 - 4 months ago, so now it doesn't bother me. Before it was a real pain. ;)
But I just turned off many options, like the graphics and everything loaded fine, even on the OLD computer.

Since there's an option to not view people's signatures, nope! :D I like to see what people list, and some people I recognize by their signature before I even look at their name. :)

very interesting question, being a dial/up disser it does cause it to be slow, but i'm to cheap to get something quicker...
:o

I agree. There used to be a limit; who knows what happened to that? I like to see SOMETHING so I can recognize people, but the lines and lines of words are a bit much.

I have siggies turned off, until someone mentions something particular, than I turn them on, view it and, turn them off again. :o

LOL. Nope, not me. I didn't say anything.

But your sig DID just remind me to check out PITA Gabriel's tour dates (as seen in Food Rocks).

NO! I love seeing what everyone has. It's interesting and tells me something about their personalities.

i can't stand long sigs. but some people probably think i have a long sig... :o

but really. when a signature fills an entire screen, then you know something's wrong with that picture...

Maybe your screen isn't as big as DH's......

Please don't ever take away the blinking Simbas. They are great!

JTB, where are you seeing the PITA?

Thank you, DocR.!:D

Uhhhh, nope! :teeth: Like Rajah said, there is the option to turn the signatures off if the signatures are slowing down the boards for you. :)

I do know that they ARE monitoring SIGs, and there IS a guideline for image size and such.

Of course if there is a lot of text, that' something that is not regulated that I know of.

How do you know? Did you get busted?? hehehe

catsrule, when my son Drew sees Simba he goes positvely wild! We can't move off your post for a good 10 minutes, he's facinated with Simba and his blinking collar.

I don't mind the siggy's or the clipart now that I have cable modem. When I had dial up, I had them turned off because it made for a slow DISing experience, and I'm not the most patient person. Now that I'm on cable, I love seeing everyone's clippies.

I like the signatures too, but if things are going slow I just click the button and by magic, no sigs. :teeth:

I enjoy the sigs alot...as others have stated I sometimes kow who it is withou even looking at nmes, however my PC is very fast, so I do understand others fustration.
