this has probably been asked to death, so I apoligize if I'm repeating something.

We'll be staying in a villa (onsite), and plan on eating most of our meals there. This means stocking up at the grocery store.
We have always shopped at Goodings (the one at the Crossroads mall) and find the selection excellent.

However, I've seen many posts in the past saying that Publix is much better than Goodings.

For those of you who have shopped at both, do you know why people say that?

Are the stores the same in terms of layout? Selection?

I assume Goodings has higher prices, but i don't care about that. We're there for such a short time, the price difference is not important.

But if there is a better selection at Publix (or a worse selection) that would indeed be an important factor.

In other words, I guess I'm asking, "am I missing anything by continuing to shop at Goodings"?

If you really don't mind the price difference, Goodings is fine. I do think that Publix has a wider selection, but Goodings is certainly a very good market. If they've satisfied you in the past I'd just continue to go there.

I have always found Goodings to be excellent for the things we've bought - like you the price doesn't particularly bother me. I haven't tried any other supermarkets but might be tempted to visit Walmart to see the variety of non-food goods.

Never been to Goodings but found Publix to be excellent. Huge variety and very diverse. Really helped us while we were all ill on our visit last year.

Whilst I haven't been to a Publix in Orlando, I have used them elsewhere in Florida. Some have been excellent, some good, and some not-so-good. The newer, larger shops have (not surprisingly) usually had a better selection and seem 'fresher'. When we're looking for a supermarket for food shopping ouside of Orlando, we tend to look for a Publix first, then Winn Dixie. Walmart is for non-food shopping only for us ;)

We like the Goodings at Crossroads, although we do find it expensive compared to practically every other supermarket we've visited in Florida! The quality and choice have been consistently good whenever we've visited there.

However, the Publix nearest WDW always seems to get rave reviews so I'm sure it would compare favourably with Goodings. If it's as near / as easy to find as Goodings, I'll definitely give it a try next time.

The Goodings has some nice specialty food that we like. At least the last time we were there. Salad trays, a nice deli, things like that.

The only time we tried another store, we thought it was dirty and we weren't particularly thrilled by the customers. I don't remember what store it was. Maybe it was a Winn Dixie. It was on the other side of I4 from WDW (i think the continuation of 535, but several miles away).

Do you know where the Publix that's near WDW is?

Maybe we'll pop in just to see what it looks like. You never know, we might fall in love. :)

We found Gooding's prices pretty high compared to other places.
There's a Winn Dixie close to the entrance of WDW or we made a trip to either Publix or Walmart.

For anyone staying on I-Drive the Publix on Sand Lake Road (west of I-4) comes highly recommended. Great selection, including a superb deli and bakery, plus way cheaper than Goodings.

Goodings is a little more pricey but the quality of their range of fresh foods is far superior to Publix or Winn Dixie. It's like comparing Marks and Spencer to Asda.

Yes, and it's so convenient - I can't be bothered with trudging around trying to save a couple of dollars here or there - after all we're on HOLIDAY!

Seen as we have the hire car for the whole holiday on our next trip, I would like to stock-up on some snacks before arriving at the hotel. Does anybody know the nearest Goodings to Universal?

Thanks!!

thank you. That's exactly what i was wondering. Fresh food, fruit and vegtables, etc are very important (especially since i'm a vegetarian)..

so i guess i'll just stick with Goodings.

publix better in my opinion there is one on vinleland road near dixilandings acroos the road from the premium outlet shopping mall and there is one next to the gaylord of world drive heading to 192.where you staying take it is dvc if you just want to stock up on sodas and beer try the hess garage save the trip out very competive prices sometimes the same as wallmart

Another vote for Publix.
Mainly because there are so many more stores in the area.
Staying in a villa in Kissimmee it is ideal having a Publix just a few minutes drive away.
Haven't been to Goodings for a long while, always though of it being a little more expensive, and whilst the quality is there they do not carry the range that Publix do.
