I have a ressie for April 9-14. I'm guessing this might be what people refer to as Easter Week. I know, I know - I didn't want to go at this time, but this is what life gave me. I also have a ressie in August. Here is the problem. I cannot find reasonable airfare for this time period. I have checked all the suggestions that people have given. Of course, I want to travel a Sunday-Friday. I have tried a day earlier and later on each end to fly, but there are still outrageous fares.

So, do I hope that the fares go down? Do they during this particular week? Or do I cancel and upgrade my August ressie while I am before the 7 month window or bank while I still can? Am I having false hopes for those particular dates? On other posts, people always say the fares will go down, but I don't know if they are considering that week in April.

I had the same issue; I've been searching airfares since I booked our Spring Break trip and they've been outrageaous. I booked the autotrain with our car and the five of us 2 adults AAA discount and 3 kids under 15 (50% off) our fare is only $1105 roundtrip so it equivalent to $250 pp airfare with car rental included as we take our own with us. Their refundable arrangements b/c I didn't have papertickets issued as long as I cancel prior to travel dates. At this point my son's friends who are going with us and are excited about the train experiece (we've done it before) and it definitely beats driving the whole way which we've done many times.

Please tell me about autotrain. I have heard of it but didn't know it was here. Does it go from most locations? Sounds like we might like that option.
Thanks for the information.

We always travel either the second or third week of April since that is when school break is, and being a teacher, I have to take what I'm given. We will be at OKW from April 7 to the 14th. I booked our flights on May 23, 2005. We are flying Delta from Syracuse to Orlando for $248 per person. If I didn't book that far in advance I'd be looking at over $400 each.

I know a lot of people wait out their airfares and get good rates, but it just doesn't happen for Syracuse so I always book as far in advance as possible. I try to book to be one of the first people to book flights for that week before the airlines catch-on that everyone in the area is off from school and looking to head south! This year it does happen to fall near Easter too. Therefore, I can assure you that fares from Syracuse will definately not go down, but I can't speak for other airports. Best wishes with whatever you decide to do! :earsboy:

Merilyn, if you go to Amtrak you can get information about the autotrain. I believe there is only one and it leaves from Virginia. It can get pretty pricey to pay for your vehicle to be transported.

Don't hold your breath waiting for the fares to go down. You might want to consider selling the reservation. That week is hot and might command well more than the standard 10 dollar a point mark. Where do you fly out of by the way? We fly Southwest and the lowest fares go quick. After that the fares go up and up. Good luck.

I can fly out PHL or EWR. The "low" Southwest fares are either gone or were never there. I need nonstop (flying with 3 kids). Southwest says either "unavailable" or we are talking well over $300 pp. At this point, I'd probably take something close to $300. The train doesn't sound like it's for me, but I do appreciate the information. (Boo hoo! I'm thinking I might turn my August ressie into a 2 bedroom at this point. Someone, STOP me! I want to go in April!)

From baltimore it is still probably 2 hours ride to the autotrain once you go through washington traffic unless there is a northern stop closer to you. If you are driving that far you might as well drive all the way if you are trying to save money. We thought about the autotrain at one time but it seemed like a hassle when you have to drive so far to get on.

You probably won't find cheap airfares now. I wouldn't cancel--I'd drive--as much as I dislike very long car rides. We are going the same dates as you and while it will be busy, it will still be fun! Last year we went the week before Easter and the parks started getting packed on Thursday (day before Good Friday). So we had a very nice week and were glad to be leaving that Friday. We also go in the summer but that is soooooo far away!

I dont know how close to 300 you need to be, but you can fly out of stewart/newburgh to Sanford/Orlando on your dates with Allegiant Air for 341.20 with taxes and fees. Hope this was a help! :flower: :scratchin
