I am hoping you wise cruisers can help me with your valuable opinions. We are currently reserved for the 4 night Wonder, Cat.6, GTY Verandah. We have sailed on DCL once before this, a Cat.4, Deck 8. My dilemma...DCL is now offering the Fla Resident Special. We can book a Cat. 9, Deck 2, 7 day cruise for the same price as we are paying for 4 nighter. I don't know what to do. We are so spoiled with the veranda and don't know if I want to give it up. Have any of you ever faced this decision, and if so, what did you decide. Any opinions from you all would be wonderful. Thanks. Alisa:cool:

I've never had a verandah and have always been very pleased with our inside staterooms. I would not hesitate if I had the opportunity to go for 7 days!!!!!!!!!! What is there to think about?? GO FOR IT!

Be sure to check out the rooms that are possible noise problems on deck #2 though..... (from Dave at DCLTribute.com)

:p

I would choose the 7-day. No contest.

Have never had a verandah but have cruised on deck 2. We are cruising again on deck 2 because we love it! This will be our 4th cruise (2nd Disney) and like the lower decks the best. 7 days vs. 4 days? No brainer ;)

I find the prospect of a veranda compelling...but THREE more days? Go for the 7 day!

Had verandah on both of our previous 2 cruises with DCL (4 nights and 7 nights) and didn't care much for it. So, this is a no brainer. No competitiion, 7 nights of course... The destinations are better, by FAR. I wouldn't bother with the 3/4 nights ever again.

I`ve only cruised once (7 day Eastern) and thoroughly enjoyed the ports.Based on how much time I was in the room, all I need is a CLOSET!

GO for 7.

We had a cat 6 on the 7 day and LOVED it, but, I'd go for the 7 day over the cabin any day.

Lets put it this way: Three more days of pampering, wonderful atmosphere, deliscious food, wonderful service and a beautiful ship vs a shorter trip with a patio that you wont really spend that much time on?????????????

I say go for the 7 day and spend a little longer on deck to see the scenery.

no contest would do 7 day..... so may be u can get cat 10 on deck 5 for lesss money and still get the port hole shhhh.
it is a secret u will be ok with out verandah peter

WOW!!!! You guys are amazing. Thank you, each and every one of you, for replying to my post. I have to admit, I am still a little blue about giving up my verandah.....but, your reassurance and opinions are very important to my family. I think we are going to go ahead and go with the 7 day Western, which leaves October 12th. We have booked (w/o giving up out 4 day ressie yet...just in case), room 2136 on Deck 2. Are any of you great DIS'rs going that date? Has anyone heard anything about this particular room? Dave''s site does not mention this room, good or bad. I was told by DCL that this was the "best available" at this time.

Fireplug, w/a name like that, are you with the fire department? My husband is with City of Orlando, F.D. Are you going to be on this cruise?

Wovenwonder, have looked at your website. What a great family you have. Thanks for your reply.

BTW, how close to the water are we going to be? And, is it difficult to get to all the "fun spots". We will be traveling with a DD(age5) and DS(age7). Thanks again to all of you. Alisa

This should be a good room. You'll be impressed by how large that porthole window is. You don't have a connecting door to an adjoining room, so you shouldn't hear your neighbors. You have staterooms across the hall from you, so you won't be across from noisy machinery. And you're on a dead-end hallway so you'll have very little foot-traffic in front of your door.

How close to the water are we going to be?
Deck 1 (below you) is a few feet above the water line. You'll be that distance plus another floor up.

Is it difficult to get to all the "fun spots"?
Not at all. You can easily take the stairs to Decks 3, 4, and 5. And you won't have anybody already on the Aft elevators when you take them up to Decks 9 and 10.

Dave, Thank you. You are such a wealth of DCL knowledge. I really appreciate your help. BTW, we have decided to go for it!!!!! We booked our 7 day vacation today. I am still nervous about Deck 2 (the "Titanic" movie keeps playing in my head:) LOL). Anyway, I just want to thank you and the other Disr's who answered my post.:D :D :D

I know what you mean...we have cruised twice, both times having verandahs. I have said I will not sail without 1 now.
But, I would have to seriously consider taking the 7 day cruise over a 4 day.
We did a 4 day cruise and decided 4 days was not long enough, and just did the 7 day in January. I now know 7 days is not enough time to be on the DCL.
I am sure since you have been on DCL before that no matter what you decide on... you will have a great time !!!!

DEFINITELY the 7-day!!!
Don't get me wrong...I love the verandahs, but hubby and I generally go for quantity. It was a hard decision, but we went with a secret porthole room for our "three-peat" on the Wonder rather than a verandah, and we used the money we saved to book another Western cruise in January.

Don't worry about deck 2 -- Our first (ever) cruise was the Eastern Magic 7 day last July -- Cat 10 - inside room # 2583 (I think) we had no problem with deck 2, or the inside room -( I would book an inside again in a minute -- I like to spend the $$ I save on other stuff!!)-- at the time I had also booked a 4 day cruise - cat 6 (verandah)for this Nov., and planned to spend time at WDW first - (It's our 20th anniversary - and we want to celebrate - with our sons - 13 & 8)

Well - after taking the 7 day - DH and I said -- no way will I be able to get off this ship after 4 days without kicking and screaming, and feeling like we missed out on something! When DCL added the Western Ports - and the week we were going is a Western - it was an EASY choice for us -- drop the verandah - but DH insisted on the window - after seeing the one across the hall - they are hugh - so we will be in 2606 on Nov 9th.

The resturants are on deck 4 - and an easy walk down to your room to change - never had any problems with location. Enjoy!
Happy Cruisin'

Thank You, each and every one of you, who have responded to my request. I was absolutely convinced to stay with my 4day, Cat. 6 verandah.....until I read ALL of your replies. I must say, my family and I have never been on a 7 day cruise, but from what you all have said, it sound Wonderful. I really appreciate your input. After seeing all of your answers, we booked the 7 day!!! We are now on the 10/12/02 Magic, and we will definitely give you our trip report upon return.

Barb, I have been following your website for some time now, and cannot THANK YOU enough for all of your information.

Dave, same to you. Thank you.
