Opinions on whether I should keep Hawaii cruise or not

Just be aware that Aulani is in a somewhat remote area of Oahu and there are few dining options around the resort. Food at Aulani itself is very expensive, but there are a few places within walking distance (such as Roy’s). You could also take an Uber on a grocery run to the Costco which is very close by and has the best prices on the island. You can actually see many of the sights on Oahu without a car by booking with the tour desk at Aulani. These are excursions like you would book on DCL, and just like DCL come at a premium price. We did a combo horseback riding and catamaran cruise at Kualoa Ranch which was absolutely fantastic and a Disney/Aulani exclusive.

Are there other grocery options besides Costco? I don’t have or want a membership as I am solo and live in an NYC apartment so I have no need to buy things in bulk.

I don’t remember any in Kapolei (where Costco is) but there are certainly some farther up the H1 towards Honolulu.

Yes. Near the Costco are 2 plazas that have other shopping/dining. There's both a Target and a Safeway in the same area. There's also a market in the shopping plaza walking distance from Aulani where you can pick up some groceries - it's more expensive than Safeway/Target, but a little cheaper than Aulani's grocery prices and they have some amazing grab-and-go foods as well (though we like the market in the Queen's Marektplace in Waikoloa on the big island just a little better). Monkeypod across from Aulani is really good, and there are a few other restaurants there as well. If you don't want to pay for the luau at Aulani, Paradise Cove is walking distance, and the Marriott also has a luau once or twice a week.

We've done 3-4 nights just at Aulani at the end of a trip and it was very relaxing. If you don't feel the need to sight see, you don't really need a car.

We decided we're going to cancel and do a land trip to Hawaii in the future. Probably going to cancel when the summer itineraries come out so we can call and book using our Placeholder and cancel at the same time since both require us calling.

In the future if you have more time you can always break up that flight with a stop at Disneyland too... as long as you're headed that way anyway... :scratchin

That's a great idea! With a land trip it'll definitely be possible since we won't have to work around the dates of a cruise.

That was my TA's suggestion when I mentioned Aulani for my 50th in 2021. I've not run my thought about Pride of America followed by Aulani...I think I'll be better financially if I do the DL and Aulani combo - especially if I stay at a Good Neighbor hotel with a ticket package.

I keep seeing the cruises pop up available, and yet, I'm never able to actually book them. Hoping by the time summer releases, I have a choice. (Still mad at myself for missing opening day this year- I'm platinum).

Definitely keep checking, especially closer to the paid in full date things should open up. There are also rumors that they will have another Hawaii sailing after Alaska so you could keep an eye on that.

We'll either do Hawaii or a trans-Atlantic this year. Until Hawaii opens up, I'll book the TA because I want to pick my rooms. Then we'll see what happens and what I keep.

There really isn't a need to stay "onsite" in Cali since they are 4 or 5x as expensive... the other hotels are so close anyway - mostly even closer. The only downside is they're basically motels and you are out of the Disney bubble for a few steps. You might see a panhandler or two before you cross the street but to anyone who lives in a city that's to be expected.
