Opinions on Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen

I dined here on the 26th of January. I looked up the restaurant, as I enjoy New Orleans-style cooking.

I thought that the service, the food, the decor, and the outside of the restaurant was outstanding.

I had pecan-crusted catfish served over dirty rice, with andouille grits, salad, bananas foster, and two pints of a localized New Orleans beer. Although the entree was part of a price-fixed menu, which also called for the famous bread pudding, but I arranged for that to be packaged to go. It would be for my breakfast the next morning.

You should try the bananas foster, as it is prepared at your table. Have your camera ready for it as the waiter does the preparation.

I highly recommend this place, and I would dine here again. 5 stars for this place.

Absolutely love it. Most of my family are real picky eaters so it takes some convincing to get my DGF to go. Leave the kids to do their own thing.

We just went last week for dinner. The service was ok, the decor fun and festive, and there was a cool band performing! We were a party of 3 and 2 of us were not that hungry. The hungry one had salmon and it looked wonderful. She said it was very good. The other person and I had French onion soup with sourdough bread. The bread was average but the soup was awful. My recommendation: don't order it! It was just broth with a couple (literally--there were only 2) croutons floating around. No bread & cheese on top and not even very good broth. I ordered hot tea and it was not good, either, and I was not brought any sugar or spoon to stir it and our waitress did not come back in time to request those things. The restaurant was also very cold inside!

Overall, I thought the place was neat and would go back again, but would avoid soup and tea!

I also went to the quick service side one morning and ordered the beignets. WOW!!!! Those were DELICIOUS!!!!

We had the beingnets too, the girls wanted to know what they were after watching Princess & the Frog so we ordered them and YUM!! They were delish!! We had them again at CO the next day before we left! LOL

Jazz Kitchen is my family's favorite restaurant at DLR (If I ever get to eat at Napa Rose, that may change!)! The food has always been amazing for us, and we love the atmosphere. A lot of people recommend the bananas foster, but I'm gonna have to put in a plug for the chocolate bread pudding. It is to DIE for!

It made me smile to see a DLR thread pop back to the top of my subscription list. We ended up having lunch there last summer and it was our favorite meal in Anaheim. We got free beignets for my DS's birthday and ended up ordering more - yum!

They had a beignet mix kit for sale in Jazz Kitchen for $9. I was sooooo tempted! One of the friends I was with said she'd gotten one and they turned out just like the ones you buy there. Unfortunately, I did not have much extra $$$ so I passed on it, but NEXT time....!

Wow...I seriously thought I was the only one who didn't like the French Onion soup. I remember reading on another thread that it was supposed to be really great but I thought it was really salty when I had it last Christmas Eve. I actually only liked the gumbo from the trio of soup. Definitely won't be ordering that again...bleh. But other than that, I love the food at JK

I believe Cafe Orleans has a French Onion soup. I've never ordered it before but I have seen a lot of people order it. I'm sure someone else here can answer that for you though.

We got this recipe from CO a few years back. We make them once a month for a treat, super easy.

Ingredients 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
1 cup evaporated milk
7 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup shortening
1 quart vegetable oil for frying
1/4 cup confectioners' sugarDirections

• In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, salt, eggs, evaporated milk, and blend well. Mix in 4 cups of the flour and beat until smooth. Add the shortening, and then the remaining 3 cups of flour. Cover and chill for up to 24 hours.
• Roll out dough 1/8 inch thick. Cut into 2 1/2 inch squares. Fry in 360 degree F (180 degrees C) hot oil. If beignets do not pop up, oil is not hot enough. Drain onto paper towels.
• Shake confectioners' sugar on hot beignets. Serve warm.

Ya I thought the gumbo was good but the bisque was amazing.....I ate the FO soup first, then the gumbo, then the bisque. LOL The bisque was the special soup of the month or something like that, it was super good but not sure if it's on the menu all the time.

Well my girls are older but I've never had any complaints about it not being kid friendly. If you're worried about it go for lunch instead.

I'm not a real snobby foodie, however, I do know good food from bad - especially in comparison with price point.

We're at the resort right now and had dinner at the Jazz Kitchen last night. I had heard mixed reviews but have always wanted to try RBJK for myself. Bottom line, at the dinner pricing the meal was horrible and COMPLETELY disappointing. Not Sizzler bad, but when you're paying near $30+ per entre and $100 - $200 on a meal ... this should be upscale food, and it was not. Each of our entres were not good - I tried each of them. I could be more specific but I'll leave it at that.

We had the NY Strip, the Mahi, Grilled Chick. kids meal, one of the salads and the garlic bread. The garlic bread and the side of Mac & Cheese was very good and on par w/ what I had expected.

Our server was very good, as you would expect at this price point. The live music (2 guys) was slightly too loud and more than anything the eq'ing was 'boomy', so that it was grating on the ears/nerves and it was hard to have any conversation over dinner.

If you want to spend this amount on a nice dinner, go to Napa Rose where the food is consistently fantastic. If you are a foodie or appreciate a very good meal at an appropriate price, this is ABSOLUTELY NOT the place to dine.

Finally, the meal made me slightly sick the following day - frankly, not a big surprise.
