Opinions on Nassau

I have read on some other sights that the majority of the cruisers do not like Nassau.

I'd like to know what all you folks out there think. I will be going on my first cruise with my 3 sisters next April and we're starting to wonder if we even want to book any excursions or maybe just stay onboard and enjoy the ship for the day.

Any and all opinions and info would be a great help

Our main problem is we have WAAAAAY too long to wait:mad:

We didn't do any of the excursions but did go into Nassau for some shopping. Now that I have been there and done that - I will probably stay on the ship next time.

With the 3 day cruise you miss out on an entire day onboard/day at sea if you get off at Nassau and Castaway Cay. It was fun and I'm glad I did it. I did not find it as horrid as some feel it is, although the straw market vendors are somwhat pushy - I enjoyed playing the "game." I also enjoyed just walking about and looking around on our own time.

Getting off the ship - or staying onboard - either way you cannot go wrong....I'm sure there will be others who will fill you in on all of the excursions.

We didn't do any excursions either but we went to Nassau just to experience it. The only problem that we had was when we first got off the ship and walked through the straw market (I think thats what it was) to get to the other shops. There were so many people trying to get you into a taxi or a carriage ride. And I can't tell you how many times we were asked if we wanted our hair braided. Instead of getting up and asking us, some people would scream it from across the road. We did a little shopping, I wanted somthing made out of Tanzanite (it is advertised in the Navigator) but it was expensive. We didn't find that anyone in the stores were pushy. In fact, we didn't bring alot of cash with me I was looking at this little ceramic dolphin, the salesperson said it was $4.00 and I said that all I had left was $3.00 and she sold it to me. We are going on a 3 day this September and will stay on the ship this time.

We've done the Atlantis excursion, once through DCL and the other 2 times on our own. We love the Atlantis Resort and find it a beautiful place to spend the day BUT, since you are only doing the 3 day, and as mentioned above, miss the relaxing day at sea, you might want to get off the ship right away, experience the Straw Market (it is itneresting) and return around lunch time. We did this on our last cruise and loved having the ship to ourselves. Very, very relaxing. Good luck and have a WONDERful time :)

We've done 3 3-day cruises and each time have gone into Nassau -- we like it. It gives you a perspective of a different culture and nation. It's not pristine, it's not Disneyworld. We've taken water taxis over to Atlantis each time. Last time we took the DCL's Historic Tour of Nassau and enjoyed it as well.

Nassau is a really pretty place if you know where to go!!!

My mom, dad, sister and I were just walking around Nassau after an excursion when we went on the 4 day trying to find the government building...

We went down an ally that had a whole bunch of shop fronts that was really nice, but then we turned down another ally and ended up in the middle of like "drug central" as we all call it. My mom and I were the only women down there! All it was was a bunch of local men selling drugs!! We had been warned about this in the Common Grounds the night before so I told mom we needed to go, so we left.

Other than the few allies of that the island is great.
