We have preschool-aged children. They really enjoyed HDDR, but I was thinking of trying something new for next year. What do you think of Mickey's Backyard BBQ? How about the Spirit of Aloha dinner show? Or neither?

Thanks!!

We love Mickey's Backyard BBQ. WE have been twice. We also did the Luau in May and enjoyed that but the BBQ is better for small kids. Thye can dance with the characters and all the ice cream you can eat......

Skip the luau! The backyard BBQ is much better! Sooo fun for the kids to dance with the characters! It's lovely there too!

Can you get pictures with the characters? I read somewhere that they don't to autograph books.

What is the level of interaction vs a character meal? I want to prepare my child.

With pre-school children the BBQ is the way to go, they will love it!

IF you go to YouTube and search "mickey's backyard BBQ" there are a few videos there that will give a good idea of what you are in for... :rolleyes1

We are fans of the BBQ. We make sure to fit it in every WDW visit. It is a lot of fun for the kids. However, I wouldn't say the character interaction is the same as a character meal. It is not as structured as a character meal is.

The characters come out on the dance floor and dance with the children. One of the characters often lead a conga line kind of dance. Some of the characters will go around the tables - but whether or not one makes it to where you are sitting, or who would make it can't be counted on.

So, you can get pics of your child with a character, but you really can't bank on it.

I agree with a previous post - if you've not been, you might look out on youtube to see if it is your kind of experience. That is what we did our first year. We personally thought it was a great way for the kids to stretch their legs on our first night at WDW, after such a long drive to get there.
