We would like to try one of the dinner shows on our next trip in July and my small son likes the look of Medieval Times.........Would love to hear the opinions of anyone who has been to this and what you thought of the food/entertainment!

Has anyone tried the Pirates one or Arabian Nights? Or the Dolly Parton One?!

We've done Arabian Nights (good show, mediocre food), Medieval Times (great show, good food) and Dolly's Dixie Stampede (great show, great food). Dolly's is by far the best in our book and we'll be going back there again in October! :teeth:

I have heard lots of good reports of Dolly's, but not actually been myself :)

Dolly Parton Stampede has the best food and is also a great all around family show. We really enjoyed it and OH wants to go back!

We have done Dixie Stampede twice.. its a FAB show! Great food, great show..

Kids loved it, actually everyone liked it. Its new, the building is stunning and the food is yummy!

We did Medieval Times last time we visited and it was fantastic. Everyone loved it from our 10 yr old through to me and DH. The food was fine and the servers really good fun. The more you can get immersed in the fun and join in the better!!

Ok, so it looks like a toss up between Dollys and Medievel!
Can you tell me exactly what the food and drink is at both and what the differences are between the two shows? Is the Dolly one very 'patriotic'!? Which would hold a 5 and half year old's attention more?!

Hi Debs,

Check out www.medievaltimes.com for a real feel for this including the menus etc. It all about knights, on horseback, jousting in a huge arena. Each part of the audience is loyal to one knight (there are about 6, I think) and cheers him on. I would say a 5yr old would love it, expecially the eating with your fingers bit!! ;)

Has anyone been to the pirate dinner show? My dh likes the look of it. I am not sure as the boys will only be 2 and Casey 6 so I am not sure if they will be too young and get bored :bored:

I took my son to Dixie Stampede when he was 4 (he got chosen to chase chickens across the arena!), and again when he was 5.. he LOVED it!

The food has changed since we went, but when we were there it was a delicious creamy soup and cheese biscuit, followed by a whole chicken, with a herb potato and corn on the cob I think, and some pork loin or something (no silverware!) and the most delicious apple turnover..
my mouth is watering thinking about it!

They have you separated into teams North and South and you stamp your feet and cheer.. it really is fun.
The patriotic thing is fine, its not over the top - we liked it..
Oh and its worth it for the preshow alone with the horse going up the stairs!

there are people riding ostrich, racing pigs and a herd of buffalo stampede through..

have a look at this..

My DSis didn't like Medieaval Times - however she is Aquarian so its probably brilliant!! ;-)

DP is dry - i.e. no beer and wine, only soft drinks

I don't know if Dixies Stampede used to be dry, but now there is the choice fo wine or beer. They will ask you when you sit down and then there is the opportunity for 1 refill, so you get two drinks, the rest is soft.

We did the Pirate Dinner show a couple of years ago and never again.

The pre-show is an attempt to extract as much money from you as possible, the food was poor. The show might have been good, not sure as we had a resticted view.

It put us off dinner shows completely but we're considering giving Dixie Stampede a try this year.

At dixie stampede there are not really any bad seats, you can see from them, but some are higher and furter back. The food was also very good for a dinner show. We did it last year and OH wants to go agian, so if anyone sees and cheap tickets going can you let us know!!!!

I've just had my mousesavers newsletter.

Next month they are going to review all the dinner shows outside Disney that you have asked about.

If you sign up now for the newsletter, you will get the one in February. It's due out on the 15th.

This may help you make your choice.
