My husband, 21 month old son and I will be in Disney at the end of September. I have Teppan Edo booked for Monday night and was wondering if I should switch it to Hoop Dee Doo?? We have a REALLY GREAT Hibachi House around the corner from us that we visit quite often and I am afraid Teppan Edo won't live up to the awesome food we get at our local hibachi place. Any opinions?? I also thought Hoop Dee Doo might be entertaining for our son!!

Help would be greatly appreciated!!! :)

I too have a favorite hibachi place in town, and as expected, Teppan Edo is not quite the same. That said, it's still one of my favorite restaurants at Disney. Just go into it knowing this, and you won't be disappointed. Biggest thing to know in my opinion is that if your local place does fried rice, you wont find it at Teppan. Fried is not authentic, and so Teppan only does steamed...

Hard to compare the two options, as they aren't exactly close on the spectrum:lmao:

We love both!!
Many people here often say they prefer their local Hibachi style restaurant at home over Teppan Edo. As previously stated Teppan Edo does not serve fried rice (fried rice is chinese, not japanese). Also at Teppan Edo the dinner does not include soup, as some other restaurants seem to.
Your son is young to make the decision based on his enjoyment. There is activity to watch at both. There is more going on at HDDR, but he won't understand it. It is fun, and I am sure he would be happy, but I would go with what most appeals to you and your DH

I must agree with this. HOWEVER, I would vote strongly in favor of HDDR. It is unique to WDW, and I believe it is something that should be enjoyed by everyone at least once. As the OP stated, they have a very good Hibatchi-style restaurant at home. While in WDW, why not try something new?

We have done the Hoop Dee Doo before...back before we were married and were traveling down with my husband's family. Never took a toddler before though!!

As for the Hibachi, my husband and his family are Japanese, so we realize that a lot of the food at American restaurants are "Americanized" and while we enjoy fried rice, we LOVE white steamed rice even more!!

We are on the Disney Deluxe Plan too if that helps with any opinions!! :) I would definitely want to do Category 1 seating if we go...not 3.

Thanks for all of the opinions so far!!

In your situation, I'd say HDD would be the better choice since its a unique experience you can't get at home. Teppan Edo is fun, but its standard stuff and probably won't be better than what you have at home. HDD is a really fun dinner show. The food isn't spectacular (it is passable) but the show is really the draw here. You're guaranteed to come out of there singing.

I would say hands down HDDR! We absolutely love it. The food is good, and it's nice to have alcoholic beverages as well. My fondest memory of our last trip was looking at my husband over his piled-high plate of chicken bones ordering a second pitcher of beer and saying, "This is the best night yet!" Too funny! Our 8 and 9 and 3 year old have asked to go back this year instead of trying the Luau. My sister has done both, and said she probably wouldn't return to Teppan Edo for the same reasons the other posters listed...just not as good as their local place. I've not heard of anyone not liking HDDR. Have a GREAT Trip!

Hands down I would choose Hoop! We love it. The atmosphere is so alive. It is a tradition for our family to Hoop the first night there. We are making reservations on Monday for December17th. We did the Luau a few visits ago and was not that impressed.

As much as I love Teppan Edo, if you say you already frequently go to a hibachi place near your home, i dont see the point in going to Teppan edo. You should try something new and more unique. I'd pick Hoop!!!
