Opinions about Whispering Canyon Cafe

We ate there Friday night and thought it was fun, although my almost-3 yo was quite disappointed he didn't get to ride a pony (too many big kids pushing ahead of him at the barrel.) Our waitress was not one of the 'characters' but was very nice and took good care of us. We got the skillet and I thought the pulled pork was very good although the barbecue sauce is more of KC-style sauce. The chicken was excellent and DH liked the ribs too.

We loved it our first time there in June - had the BEST time and lots of antics going on.
BUT, we just went last week on our trip, and me and the kids were really looking forward to it, but it just wasn't the same. Not many antics going on. Kids did the pony races, straws were thrown at us and then the endless calling out for ketchup - that was it. I had the skillet and loved that and the salad. The kids didn't enjoy their meals at all. My sister and BIL were with us and just didn't "get it", so that didn't help matters. Really, we were so sick of hearing KETCHUP! It was nonstop, and the only antic going on in the whole place, and after 10 times or so it just was NOT funny anymore! Granted my sister and BIL's foul moods didn't help at all.
We were really looking forward to eating there again, but just wasn't as much fun as our first time.

Though our first time was pretty tough to beat - my friend got tossed into "jail" there, got the large cokes, server ate our desserts then brought us out new ones, friend got reprimanded when on her cell phone - just was a great time! And lots of other fun stuff going on throughout the restaurant. This time, really no antics for us, or anyone else dining when we were.

The only excitement we had was when my poor son got stuck in the highchair.

I think this is a place that people either love or hate-not alot of in between. Kind of like 50's diner. You have to WANT this kind of entertainment, which we love. We were there in May with me, DH, DMIL, and our boys who were 5 and 21 months at the time. The 5 yr old loved it, we got the "ketchup", did the pony races. Had a blast. We weren't in the main dining room but in the first little area off of it, but our waiter was great! The table next to us had an older couple who obviously weren't there for the entertainment. Kept giving my kids dirty looks and scooting their chairs away from our table (we had to wait a little but for our check so the kids were getting a bit restless). So you have to be in the mood for some sillyness or you won't like it. We loved the food, too, except for the cowboy beans!

I agree with you. We have been at least twice, once for lunch, once at dinner. Separate trips, once in the main dining room, once in the area toward the back. First time, just me and my sis, second time, with daughter and grandkids. First time, no funny business at our table, but stuff going on around us. Second time, the huge drink delivered and the straws thrown, but other than that, a semi-quiet time for the WCC.
Bottom line, I guess the experience you get depends on how much your server is into things!

Personally, I hate this place. DH and I had a lovely meal in the back by the fireplace a few years ago. It was a cold and rainy early winter afternoon and the food, waitress, atmosphere, etc. was perfect.

I have been back twice since with DH and with my mom. The food at both of those meals was just ok and I was just sick of the noise and fuss. I would have rather had a second coke or to have finally gotten the dressing for my salad than to have had 15 bottles of ketchup.

We went in September and this was our first meal... lunch at WC!

I had read on the boards some of the antics and was kind of prepared for what might happen to my family...LOL... but to my suprise I was drafted by my waitress to do the Hokey Pokey with her in front of my newest 300 or so friends! At first, I was like oh no... no way.... and was thinking of how I would escape but we hadn't received our bill and my partner had never used the DP yet and I knew would be frantic. Then I just took a deep breath and thought, they won't ever see me again and after all, I am here to be a kid!

It was hilarious and probably with all the noise no one even noticed that some pooh sized lady was teaching them the Hokey Pokey. I got a certificate to scrapbook and it was a perfect memory that my kids have that mom did it! LOL Too funny!
