Opinions about Test Track 2.0?

My mom and I are going to WDW 1/5 and I was wondering about what people are saying about the new Test Track. Is it interesting? Do people wish it was the old Test Track? I've seen pictures of it and even though it seems to be new and exciting, I'm not too sure whether it has the same feel as the original Test Track. What are your thoughts?

My 9 year old son and I like it.

It was his favorite ride before, and he thinks it's even better. Very different feel, but same track.

Even without the design part, we like the theme quite a bit more.

I enjoyed the update, but thought the semi on the side of the road seemed a little out of place now.

The ride and cars are really the same as before so it is the same fun ride it has always been. The "design" part did not make sense to me, partly because I read that my design had no effect on the car at all (and it doesn't). My guess is that if we want to design the top scoring car (for bragging rights only) the process will be detailed on the internet soon. ;)

As for the overall experience, "**************" spelled it our pretty well: "Either ignore the frustrations of the design process, or use FASTPASS or the single rider lines and ignore the design process entirely. Get on the ride itself, and have a ball!"

My thoughts too!

I think it is quite different and visually stunning. It's hard to say if it's better or worse than the old Test Track, it really depends on what you love about the ride. If it's the high speed loop (my favorite), than you might even like this version better. If you like the crash test process, the new version may seem worse. All in all, I think the update was a great idea, as the car design process truly has changed from when the ride was originally built. The "design your own car" process sparks creativity, something Walt would have loved to see. The new update is a great one! Enjoy your stay! :)

I kind of preferred the old one that had more of a story to it, but I liked the new version fine. I agree that the design part is kind of useless. I like the new car section you walk through after the ride much more now. We had a lot of fun taking silly photos with a bunch of DIS friends. You can e-mail them to yourself or others.

I miss the thermal imaging TV screen right at the end of the ride. I always used to wave my arms around at that part and then everyone else in the car would do it, too.

I liked the old one but felt it was time for a change and the new version is a nice update to a good ride, the ride itself has a cool Tron, computer feel to it.The outside portion is still good and the best part of the ride, the only negative there is you don't hear "push it" as you get near top speed. The design portion is more than anything to entertain you in the queue. The FP and singles line don't even give you the opportunity to do a design, you kinda just pick a car.The whole seeing your cars score throughout the ride is not really integrated well into the ride. When I first heard of the whole designing your own car and it being worked into the ride I had doubts that it would work well and those doubts proved to be correct.I rarely will do the regular queue as I will likely do singles and FP most of the time but at least they do have two design stations after the ride so you can try to design the car if you didn't get to.My final thoughts are the ride is an upgrade and the designing section is more than anything as a way to entertain yourself in line which is not a bad thing either.

My DS7 loves it, so I guess that is all that matters....having said that, the updates and new graphics are cool, there's a lack of umph in the ride, though...not sure exactly.... The truck looks weird when it is coming at u....not sure exactly...the rest of the family doesn't care for it....DH38, DD17...lol

We liked the old one better. I'm not that fond of the glowing aspects of the new ride. At least the kept the track the same :)

Rode 3 times in same day.

Ride one: pre-show crashed right as we were about to enter, so no car design phase and made the ride confusing.

Ride two: in car audio and video weren't working at all, which made the ride boring

Ride three: in car video was sketchy sometimes and sometimes worked.

Overall impression is that there's far too much technology to keep a ride that breaks down often without it running properly. It's visually appealing, but the ride really doesn't make as much sense as before and they use too much of the reflective tape and too many empty areas of the ride.

Seems as if the ride should have been moved to Tomorrowland. At Epcot, I particularly enjoy the interplay between technological advancement and the attractions themselves. That is what Epcot was supposed to be (once the original EPCOT concept of a city was scrapped). While the old version of TT needed a bump up, (how long did they think they could impress us with the "futuristic" concept of ABS brakes? I think roller blades have ABS braking by now :rotfl2:), I still enjoyed the fact that the attraction was an attempt to marry real-world saftey development and a fun ride. This new version abandons all attempts to merge the two concepts. While the ride might be fun, the glittery light show belongs more in Tomorrowland than in Epcot. So for that reason, I have to say that my opinion of what they have done leans to the negative.

it was....blah. They took most of the interesting set pieces and story out,and just added lots of flat painted sets, etc. I thought it was ok, but my DH who's a car nut and a realist HATED it.

Oh dear... Sounds a little disappointing. I was hoping it would be even better than the old one. Will still look forward to trying it out for myself. The old one was in need of a little refurb.

We enjoyed it. I agree with PP, it's hard to say one version is better than another. They're just different. We weren't able to do the design part because our computer didn't work the first time and we went through fastpass the second time. I was disappointed about that, but it wasn't a big deal. Ultimately, I like the changes.

I totally agree.
We used the single rider line when we were there last week and were never given cards/passes to do the design process. We still enjoyed the new theme-ing of the ride (DH did think it was quite Tron-esque) and we hadn't been on TT in about 4 years, so it was great fun to see everything all new!

Enjoy! :)

::yes::

I really like the design phase and the pre show is a whole lot better, but once you're on the ride, it leaves a little bit to be desired, IMO. It is the same track, but with less scenery, just some neon and lighting effects. Overall, I do like the new one better, because it is a lot more interactive with the design aspects. I find myself wanting to go again just to try to make my design better.

I didn't like it at all. It seemed like forever waiting to ride it when you don't wanna do the design thingy. It does seem a bit faster though which is cool but overall thumbs down

Fun facts:

There's no reflective tape.

There's more scenery than before - lots more.

It's just people's bias against change. This is the old ABS test area, notice how THERE IS NO SCENERY TO SPEAK OF but people keep claiming the new ride has "less" somehow.

And here is the same area in the new ride:

To say there is less scenery in the new ride is just ridiculous.

I can do this ALL day... this entire scene was an area of Test Track previously known as "Black Lake" because it was a large black void with nothing in it that was left over from the conversion from World of Motion to Test Track..

I liked that scene in particular. It reminded me of some of the old stuff on Space Ship Earth or even Horizons.
