Opinion: Which computer is better--Sony or Dell?

We are in the market for a new desktop computer. Right now, we have a sony laptop, a sony digital camera and a sony digital video camera. We have been very happy with the sony product line. We have had some bad luck with other computers in the past. But, my sony laptop is very reliable (very rarely has any error messages). Dell seems to have a good reputation as well.

We are loking for a fairly top of the line model, to do video editting and such. To get what we are wanting, we know we are going to spend a good deal of money. But it seems like we can get a computer with slighlty better specs from Dell for a bit less. But, I like the reliablity we have had in the past with the sony.

Anyone have any experience with these brands of desktops?

TIA

GATEWAY!!!! I have a Gateway at work and a Dell at home. I HATE my Dell. I've already requested a new Gateway for Christmas with all of the bells and whistles.

Another vote for Dell, I have one at work and at home. The one at home is the next to the top of the line - never had any problems with it.

I have a Gateway and a Dell at home and a Dell at work. I prefer the Dell.

we bought a new Sony Vaio last year..and haven't had a bit of trouble with it..on the other hand..friends who purchased a Dell have had nothing but trouble...guess everyone has their favorites..but I am sticking with Sony for now!

If you are intent on buying a PC, then between the two you mentioned I would say Dell. However, if you are going to do a lot of graphics work, my suggestion would be to look into a Mac.

No reason to buy a mac over a PC as far as graphics are concerned these days.

Definately Dell. While Sony makes good electronics, they haven't gotten totally up-to-date in the computer world.

Thanks for all the prompt opinions. Right now I am leaning towards the dell, but I have more research to do before I completely make up my mind.
