This is my first time to the Universal complex and am staying on site for four or five nights (mainly for the front of the line perk). I'll be attending a convention at Dolphin in WDW during the day so the family can explore Universal during the day and I'll catch up with them during the evenings. I can stay at the Portofino the entire stay OR switch to the RPR for the last two nights and save an extra $50 because of various discounts (PB is actually $30/night cheaper than the RPR for the first three nights).

Is switching resorts a major hassle? I personally would like the variety of staying at two different resorts. We stayed at the Carribean last year for a week and looking back would have like to try a different moderate midway through the trip.

My other dilema is that one of the nights the convention is hosting a private party at Universal from 7 to 11 with a buffet and no wait lines on most of the rides. I get to attend it free but it would cost my wife an extra $75 and probably another $75 for my kids to join for the extra 4 hours. Do you think it would be worth it???

I have stayed at RPR and love it. I stayed at PBH and loved it! If I were you, I would switch. It's like a second vacation...lol...
I am actually staying at the HRH this summer and changing to PBH. They can cross reference your reservation and I was told they will even move your luggage for you from one hotel to another.

I agree, why not try both if you think you'd enjoy it. Both resorts are lovely and it might be fun to try them both.

As for the private party, it would be fun to have the run of the park but that is a bit pricey. I guess that it would depend on the food being offered and whether all of the attractions would be open.

I have stayed at all three of the Universal on-site hotels. I agree with the others - try them both.

They are so different and both so beautiful.

You are going to have big fun!

Enjoy your trip!

I have switched from HRH to RPR and it was painless. Too bad you can't do RPR first and move up to PBH. They are both nice. PBH rooms are a little bigger.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't do it. After those BIG beautiful PBH rooms, the RPR would be a let down. We started at RPR in March since PBH was booked the first 2 days..nice hotel and all, but rooms are pretty tiny. Couldn't wait for the switch...and luggage move is totally painless.
