Opinion please...about a Purse I found...

Contact Someone about the purse.

DON'T THROW THE THING AWAY! No matter how far the police station is!

Some of my purses have a lot of sentimental value. I don't care if EVERYTHING was stolen out of my purse, I would WANT it back. How would you feel if someone just threw out something of yours because they didn't want to be bothered?????? :(

I would give it to the police and let them handle it. I found a wallet in the produce section of the grocery store one time and turned it in. Well the lady who lost it was up there reporting it missing. She then accused me of stealing her wallet. I told her that if I would of taken it why would I turn it in??? She made such a scene at the store opening it and checking things to make sure I didn't steal from her. I wouldn't call the person, just let the police handle it.
Several years ago some friends of mine found a purse in the woods. Everything was in in execpt for any cash. they called the owner and told her, even let the owner of the purse come to THEIR house to pick it up. When the women and her husband got there instead of telling them thank you and being apprieciative of getting back her pics etc, she was questioning them and looking at them like they had done something wrong. Why would they give these people their address if they had stolen it? :( They said it was obvious by the looks of the purse that it had been in the woods for a while.
I agree turn it over to the police and let them handle it.

anyone off, just asked a question and wanted to know what to do, didn't mean to start a debate....I will go back to hiding under my rock now.....:o

Instead of playing martyr, why don't you just admit that you were wrong to decide how important this woman's purse is to her? You have no right to decide what is valuable to another person.

Call the police if you don't feel like dealing with it.

Poor Poohbear123, my opinion is you should never ask for other's opinions on this board.

,

turn it in to the police station. God forbid if something treacherous happened to her, you may have some needed info.
A few years ago, when my cousin went missing, someone found her belongings and turned them in. It ultimately assisted(because of the location, etc) in proving to the jury beyond a shadow of a doubt, that her husband was guily of 1st degree murder. Now surely that is not the case here, but you never know.

I woke up one morning with someone's purse on my lawn. I called the police and let them pick it up. I didn't want to get into a situation where anyone would think I had taken it. I would at least call the police and ask their advise.

Edited to say

I left my bag at a Dunkin Donuts a few months ago. When I remembered that I did, it was too late. They did charge on my credit card. But I kept hoping that the bag was found with my personal belongings. (glasses, pictures, old WDW room key cards) Give the person a piece of mind at least.

I had my purse stolen right before xmas a couple years ago in the parking lot of my son's child care center. There wasn't much money in it, although there were a few GC's. The thing that upset me most was all my makeup and other personal things were in there, including paperwork stuff. I never did get it back, although I got a phone call from a bank where a homeless man wrote himself million dollar checks and tried to cash them at that bank. The checks had his address on the back and when I called the police they didn't seem to care, they just figured he found them in the trash or when my purse was dumped.

I can't believe someone would even consider throwing a purse they found in the garbage. You should take it to the police station (even if it's 20 minutes away) or try to contact the person.

It takes a few bad apples to make me NOT post questions on this board again. I gave the purse to my neighbor, who works at a Broward Police station, she will call up the girl and let her know they have the purse.

Oh c'mon you asked for opinions and you got them. Not everyone is going to say what you want them to say, that's just the way the world works :)

Its just a pain when I have to be CAREFULL how I put my words together, so as not too make some people "Upset." I asked a question and got some weird:crazy: responses. I am just "surprised" at how some people think thats all.

Then you and I have something in common. Because I am also "suprised" (although "shocked and appalled" might be a more accurate phrase) at how some people think.

I didn't really see anyone get upset on this thread other than you. Some people were surprised at how YOU think, that's all. I for one agree with them...I don't know what would ever make you think it was ok to throw away someone else's purse. And if these kinds of responses are what make you feel like you have to be careful around here, so be it. I would much rather people tell me their honest opinion than always agree with me just because they don't like to ruffle feathers.

No Silverlily, I was very surprised at how people jumped down her throat about "throwing the purse away". I think the OP asked what we would do in her situation. I do not recall her asking if we thought she was a terrible person because she considered trashing the purse. If the purse looked like a piece of trash that had been laying around forever, then that would probably be one of my considerations as well.

It would be really nice if we could leave out the character judgements when a person asks for a simple opinion.

I didn't see anyone say that Poohbear was a terrible person, nor did I see any character judgements. If questions like "What would make you think to throw it away?" and "You don't consider pay stubs important?" are jumping down someone's throat, then I disagree. Those were honest questions that I'm sure a lot of people were thinking. The only character judgement I saw going on was Poohbear when she called some of us posters "bad apples" because we had the opinion that throwing the purse away was wrong.

Why aren't you defending us "bad apples", damo? Oh, let me guess...because you made the judgement that we deserved to be called that?

Hmmmm, this quote is full of character judgments. Give it up, Silverlily, the damage is done and so am I with this thread.

That wasn't a character judgement. That was making a comment about her actions. I didn't say she WAS a martyr, I said she was PLAYING the martyr with that one particular post. I didn't make a judgement about her whole character. She, on the other hand, said we were bad apples. She made a judgement about our whole character based on some comments on this thread.

But, whatever. I suspect you can't argue with that, which is why you didn't address the "bad apples" comment in your last post, and which is why you are "done with this thread".

Okay guys - the question has been asked, replies have been given and the OP has made sure that the purse will get back to the owner.

Lets not get into debates over character judgements or start reading between the lines. The horse is dead, let it rest!
