I just signed up for the southwest visa 50,000 points deal. We are going to Disney end of Feb. just wondering your opinions....I know I need to spend the 2,000 to get the points (this shouldnt take more than 1 month) and then it takes like another 6 weeks to get the points credited. Do I have time and should I wait?

I would ask on the transportation board - those are the frequent flyer folks. But generally, it seems like booking as soon as flights are released is usually better (and that's definitely true if you book on someone like Southwest who will give you a future credit if prices drop). Cheap flights usually get booked up quickly at release.

The great thing about booking with points on SWA is that if the price goes down, you can re-book under the lower fare and the extra points are returned to your RR account.

Personally, I don't book SWA as soon as their fares come out because they never seem to be all that good and then I end up spending time checking and re-checking for lower rates. One exception: Holidays! If you are thinking of traveling during President's Weekend, book as soon as you have enough points to cover the cost of the flights.

I booked my SW flight for the beginning of August (8/4 - 8/14) in mid-June. I had been watching since February. They dropped briefly about 7 weeks out.

I'm doing a cruise the 2nd week in January and I am still watching flights. Nothing has changed since they've been released, other than them going up a bit and then back down to where they started.
