Ophelia UPDATE!!

I'm joining the chorus of people telling Ophelia (weird name for a hurricane/tropical storm, isn't it?) to stay away - at least until I am safely ensconsed in POFQ Saturday midafternoon!! :p

And gypsydoodlbug, I have to tell you that your little Tink is adorable!!!!

Orlando residents,

We are flying out of Portland, Maine around 5 pm on Sat. the 10th and arriving in Orlando around 10ish. Should we be fine?

Safetymom, thanks for the link. I have looked at it and passed it on to my mother in law-she likes to track that stuff when her sons and family are traveling. She told me last night Orlando or the area is supossed to get 15 inches of rain. My husband said no. Are you getting lots of rain now? What is the weather like? My husbands parents house is in Winterhaven. We will be going there first(sat the 10th) and not going to Disney till the 12th.

Asking any experts or guessed opinion of that area "Do you think the weather will be cleared by the 12th?" Does the stormy overcast last a long time after these storms or does it clear right up? Can someone give me some detailed typical scenerios? Thanks I would appreciate any info!!
Tammy from Maine
leaving in 2 days!!!

We too are leaving in 6 days! I never knew what a hurricane was till preparing for our first trip Im on the weather stations non-stop! I hope its nice weather would hate the first time out to be scary for the kids... Good luck to everyone ,stay safe, and Have FUN!!!!!!!!!

In the Orlando area we are getting hit and miss rain showers. We have gusty winds up to around 30 mph on a regular basis.

As for when it will clear, who knows? As Ophelia moves away from us this weekend, it should help clear the weather in the Orlando area. However, a couple of models now have the storm turning back toward Florida. If that is the case, the weather will get much worse very fast. That won't happen for several days, if it happens at all. It is a just wait and see thing.

A little rainy today... not really bad and it looks like Ophelia may be traveling up the coast so we should soon be in the clear. Thunderstorms always this time of year.

Have fun and be safe all you travelers, here's to hoping for sunshine!! :sunny:

tigertam, we are not supposed to get large amounts of rain from Ophelia. I think this weekend we will have showers but I don't think it will be too bad.

We're taking a red eye out of SFO Fri. night and connecting in Atlanta Sat. morning. Scheduled to arrive in Orlando at 10:30 am Saturday. I just want to make it to the BC. We're armed with ponchos and don't really care how the weather is once we get there. Just don't want to get stuck in an airport for an extended length of time and miss any magic. :flower:

Please keep all the news coming, especially if your from Florida. We'll be arriving Saturday morning and I am concerned about the weather spoiling our trip. :sunny:

Thanks,

Thanks. I was wondering what the weather was like over there. I didn't look to bad on radar, but still wasn't sure. We are heading over to the MK tomorrow for Night of Joy.

The weather here has been very yucky today (rainy, but not much wind).

Anyone from the Winterhaven area? It doesn't look the storm is bothering you. Is it cloudy?

I'm packing now. I have a question. People said they don't need pants, just shorts. During this type of weather what do you all wear? Shorts, pants? Should we pack pants?

Although it is in the 80s, there is a stiff wind. If this continues, you may want a sweater in the evening.

By the way, Ophelia is now a hurricane.

Go away Ophelia!!!! We are leaving St. Louis Saturday (I hope) and stay until the 17th. Am getting a little nervous about Ophelia now. Anything we should pack extra (ie. flashlights, etc.)? All you Floridians, please, please keep us posted.
Thanks,
Disnemimi

FWIW- looking at most recent extended track estimate of Ophelia, and everybody keeps saying just don't know what it is going to do, but toward first part of next week appears to turn back toward Florida after drifting to the east. I just read Joe *******i's column on Accuweather and if I'm understanding him correctly he thinks this could become a category 3. Also if I'm understanding him right, and feel free to correct me, he seems to think it is going over Florida to the Gulf when all is said and done. Just one weather person's opinion. Sure might put a crimp in my plans trying to fly from North Carolina to Orlando next Thursday.

We're flying from NC to Orlando next Friday....I think I might cry. :guilty:

We are flying next Thursday as well and all of these predictions it will turn around and come over Florida are making me really sad. While if my plane flies I will be on it, I am traveling with my mom and if there is even a threat of a hurricane she isn't going !!

I personally have waited 33 years to see the mouse...and I'm going no matter what! Nothing is stopping me!

I'm in Polk Country and it's windy right now. Besides that, today was gorgeous and no showers.

Some other "expert" I saw this morning has it hitting Georgia and/or S.Carolina.
But they both could very well be wrong.
