We will be cruising in less than 2 weeks, but opening day for 2019 itineraries will open before then. Should we wait until we are onboard, so we can get the discount and OBC or book on opening day?:chat:

you can transfer a booking to obb if it is a lower price, but unless it's the WBPC it probably won't change that much

Will TAs know the price before Monday? When will we find price?

So, what happens, I book on opening day and then cancel and rebook onboard?

Yes, exactly, if the price onboard is cheaper than what you already have. It will take a little time for the credit to come back to your account as the banks issue & receive the refund, but that is the only downside. Disney usually says to give it a couple weeks, but we have always gotten it back in a matter of days.

And there is no cancellation fee or penalty right?

We've done both before twice. The first time we booked Alaska opening day (in the spring) and then by the time we were onboard next (that fall) the price was so high, it wasn't worth rebooking onboard so we booked a placeholder instead. Then, again, it happened where we had another cruise we moved our placeholder to, then we also wanted to book another. Again, we booked opening day in Feb for summer 2018, then when we were onboard in March, the price was exactly the same this time as opening day (since really, it was only a month later) so we booked the cruise again onboard. At that point, we had two reservations (opening day and onboard). I emailed my TA, she cancelled the opening day one, then she moved my onboard booking to the room I had booked opening day (I wanted that specific room).

Not unless you are within your PIF period or are booking concierge level, generally. If you are debarking from a non-us port, are on a sailing 10 nights or more, are on a holiday one though it is ~120 days prior that you lose your deposit.

You're in the US, right...?

Yes. We are leaving in 2 weeks for our cruise and the one we are looking at is in 2019, so plenty of time between.

I'm in the same position; we get underway on Fantasy Nov 4th. We are looking at a 2019 spring break cruise; so as a Silver I book on Nov 1st to lock in a cabin selection and then try to move it to an onboard booking to get the discount, right?

They cancel it for you onboard, if you book opening day? Also, is opening day cheaper only because no one has booked yet?

Yes, exactly.

Yes & yes. I am not sure they will cancel the original without you asking them to though - they won't assume.

We were able to book once as an OBB on opening day because we just happened to be on board when the new itenerary booking window opened.

I remember sitting with my morning coffee at the desk at 7 am when the onboard booking CM showed up. It all took just a few minute with no phone waiting!

Our cruise in April (Western Fantasy 2A) is about $4000. If we wait and book for 2019 we’ll save 10 per cent plus get $200 ( or maybe $150). So that’s about $600. So the question is will the price go up by that much between Tuesday and April.

I an sure there are no guarantees, but do you want to take the chance?
