Oops! We did it again.... Leaving the kids at home... *5/26 Update

Great info about Seatlle......with my hubby's schedule I don't think we could do that.....we're already taking 11 days in a row.....I think adding one more day would be pushing it....... :rotfl: (besides with the price of gas right now.....it might not save anything doing it that way)

WOO HOO for being under 200!!!!! At least for now........ :rotfl2:

Yeah, with a group your size, you would have to have a pretty big rig to haul everything, or two rigs...

I can get away with taking Terry's new car, and we will pay less then 50 bucks for gas... :thumbsup2

I will see what airports are running the best deal in a few weeks and make the call then. I am really leaning toward Southwest, and then if I end up booking Seattle, then the PDX flights come down, i can switch... :teacher:

I wish I could get Terry to just do 11 days off... He would go for a month if I would let him! I keep having to say, umm, hello, remember those things called, work, school house payment??? :rolleyes1

Ive missed you 2!

Reading about what Bill and Tracy did made me cry! That's one of the reasons I love the DIS! There are so many amazing people on here!

So....will you be taking bets on wether or not you keep your mouth shut till d-day?;)

Well, we have completely turned this trip upside down and spun it around… :upsidedow

We went from taking the entire family down to just us adults… And added about 5 days into the mix… :woohoo:

And we did it this morning….

And ADR day is tomorrow!! :scared:

Is anyone else this insane?!?! :confused3

Oh, just us??

Thought so… :rolleyes1

Here are the new plans as we have them right now…

November 23rd to December 7th – Pop Century Resort

Regular Dining Plan with 10 day tickets

Next up, will we actually get our ADR’s lined up tonight and how will we fare in the morning…

Whoa!! I think you guys might get the prize for most changes!

I can't wait to hear about how this change came to be.

you are leaving the kids at home????:scared1:

Have you told them that yet?

can't wait to see what ADR's you get

WOW.......huge change of plans!! An adult trip would be fun.......my hubby & I did that once for DL and I tell you, it was nice to do what WE wanted & at our pace........but it also felt really weird not having the kids there. We kept seeing things we wanted to share or show them....but they weren't there. :worried: But we'd keep going and our inner child would come out again & we had a great time!! :goodvibes

We'll be coming in the day you leave. I guess we'll just wave as we drive by the Pop!! :wave2:

Can't wait to hear the story & see what ADR's you get!!! :woohoo:

Oh I think we have that prize in the bag!! We are both indecisive, can be a bad combo sometimes...

Yes, the kids know!! ::yes::

Terry and I did WDW alone in 2010, and I know exactly what you mean about it being weird sometimes.

Bummer our dates didn't line up better!!!

Ok, so you are asking how this big change came to be...

Well, it started with me really not feeling right about pulling Alec out of school again. We saw how much he has struggled and just couldn't do it. We sat him down and talked to him. He totally agreed. Told us to take Tailor and go have fun, but we owed him a trip for his graduation present! Kid already has a list started and it's still 5 years away!! :lmao:

So that left us with a trip with Terry, Tailor and myself. She still had no idea that we were looking at going. So we thought about it for a few days. Tailor is a good student, when she applies herself. She has to be made to do her homework or her reading, and I finally told Terry that I thought she should stay behind too. This was suppose to be our year for an alone trip. Of course the fact that she cut her own hair the other day and has been a royal pain in the rump helped make the decision a little easier.

Some of you may be wondering why we don't just vacation during school vacations...

Well, Terry can't get the time off. It will be another 4 or 5 years before that happens. We do fun things with the kids during the year, and this year will be no different. We took them to Maui in December, then California (Great America & Sea World) in April, so they are not mistreated...

Terry and I love our kids. But we also love our alone time. When we got married, Alec was already here. We never had time to ourselves without kids. And we work very hard at making sure we do not become one of the couples that have no connection or spark once the kids are gone. So, in my eyes, this trip is an investment into our future... ::yes::

Now, the kids will not be locked in a closet with a bowl of food. I will leave them presents to open from us while we are gone. My parents will take them for a while and spoil them, they have their own room at their house. Terry's parents will also do a few days and spoil them some more. And we have a good friend who stays at the house and loves hanging out with the kids. So much so that last time we did this, Alec and him stayed up until 3am playing videos games on a school night... on accident of course!! :rolleyes2 We will have to discuss that before we leave again... ::yes::

And of course, Terry and I shop like crazy for them when we are away. Terry already told me to pack an extra duffel bag into our suitcase. Last trip we had to buy a few of the rolling duffels to get everything back home... :rotfl:

So, there you have it... We are horrible awful parents... ::yes::

But the kids know we are going without them, and they could care less. Tailor's first remark was, SWEET!! I get to stay at Grandma's house!

Next up... My ADR night/morning from you know where... :faint:

Hmmm... a trip again with no kids and meeting up with us. I see something odd here, it could be a couple things...

1) You have no children and you just parade pictures of friends kids on here
smiley-girl-thinking.gif
.

OR

2) You are ashamed of us and don't want your kids meeting the "weird people from the DISboards"

I am awaiting the answer!!!

Both of those are viable options...

I'm glad the kids took the news so well. I think parents deserve time alone!! Mike & I had our first child 15 mths after getting married & it just continued. So here we are at 49/50 yrs old and we still have a house full of kids.......lol At this point in our lives, we should be taking lots of couples only trips. Mike & I just need to plan to do one now & then.

So enjoy your planning......you will have an amazing trip!!! (and your kids will have a blast with the grandparents!!!)

D.Jay and I have been married for almost 20 years and our first was born 11 months after we married, so I know what you mean about needing alone time. It's so important because without a strong relationship between the parents, the family falls apart.

One of my favorite quotes is "the most important thing a father can do for his children is love their mother".

So I say...good for you guys!

And we've been there with kids getting behind in school. It sucks, and has almost driven me to home school a few times. I still think my kids gain more from a week with the family on vacation than the same week spent at school, but what do I know, I'm just the mom.

We had to drag our kids to disneyland to meet Wendy and Derek so my kids would believe my dis friends aren't imaginary and for my dis friends to believe my kids aren't ficticious.

I love that quote!! One of my favs!

I agree about the family time vs. school time... There is talk about fining parents for pulling kids out or kids skipping school. Not sure how much of it is rumor or truth at this point.
