Hi - looking for a little advice before I call DVC. Has anyone ever done this - and were you able to correct it?? TOTALLY my fault BTW!

I'll be as short as possible with my oops!!! :confused3
My use year is December. I know that, but spaced when booking a stay for December 2011.

I have 194 points left in use year Dec-2010 that I should have rolled forward to Dec-2011 before I booked. But I didn't - OOPS!
When I did my booking online for my Dec-2011 stay, they used my use year 2011 points and then borrowed 52 from my use year 2012 - all of which is correct since I didn't roll 2010 forward.
Now I have these use year 2010 points - 194 of them that I'm not planning on using this year - can only roll forward one year to use in use year 2011 which I am not planning another trip for. Bottom line, without planning another trip, I want to correct this mess and use the 2010 points for the Dec-2011 trip.

Hope that all makes sense - it does in my head anyway!!
So my question is.....has anyone ever OOPsed like this? If I call DVC and explain it, will they let me cancel, roll the 2010 points forward, then rebook using the 2010 rolled over points 1st, the 2012 already borrowed points 2nd (since I can't put them back in 2012), and then my 2011 points as needed to finish out the ressy?

Or are they going to laugh and point and tell me I'm just plain Goofy! :surfweb:

Worse case - I roll them forward and we plan another trip in 2012 - oh darn :rotfl:

How many points is you Dec 2011 reservation using?

Well the borrowed pts are suppose to be a permanent transaction, you could still bank the 194 pts and have MS then use those and the 52 borrowed points for Dec 2011. Any points left over in Dec 2011 UY could then be banked to use in your 2012 UY.

Hi Laura
The Dec-11 trip is 252. I'm fine with using the borrowed points - and rolling use year 2011 forward was exactly what I had planning on doing anyway so I'm fine there. So you think MS will make the change for me and change this ressy to the rolled forward points instead of the 2011 use year points?

They should. You are still very early into the 11 month booking window where there may even be rooms available for cancelling completely and rebooking.

But as long as you call MS and politely tell them how you goofed, I'm pretty sure they will do this for you.

I'll give it a try :) Totally my error, I was excited because I was at the 11 month window for my home resort and submitted my ressy without realizing it crossed the use year. :upsidedow If they won't change, we'll either plan a quick getaway to DL this year, or roll them forward anyway and do another trip next year. Either way it will work out.

Thanks for your input!

As long as all of your points are eligible for the 11 month booking window, you should have no problem doing a point reallocation. I have done it multiple times. Just call MS and ask them to bank your 2010 points into 2011. Then have them substitute the 194 banked points for 194 2011 points. I think you will be stuck with using the borrowed points because borrowing is a final transaction. But if you don't need the 194 2011 points you free up, you can bank them into 2012. This type of point adjustment is not a special favor and does not require canceling and rebooking.
Good luck!

Yep - not really an oops at all and MS will be able to easily reallocate the newly banked 2010 points to your reservation.

Quick question...when you submitted the online request form, did you mark the check box authorizing them to borrow points if needed? I never authorize borrowing for the online form, just in case I've made a similar point error to the one you made.

If you did not authorize borrowing, maybe they will "unborrow" those points for you via a manual adjustment.

If you did check it, then do as everyone else suggested, talk to MS bank you points and ask them to reallocate to use the banked points and borrowed points, freeing up the 2011 points for banking.

Sorry if this is OT, but I haven't tried the online request form before. Does it work better than calling MS or is it basically the same? Is it easier than being in the phone queue with all the others?

If you are trying to book a busy time of year, or have doubts that you may get your desired room, I would call MS.

As I generally book OKW during the 11 month window, I've used the online form without problems. It may take 2 days or so for them to process your online request.

Yep I checked the box, so the borrow is legit. I don't have a problem with the borrow though. If I can reallocate as everyone says, then I'll just replace those borrowed points 2012 points by rolling forward unused 2011 points.

The online form is just that, a fill in the blank form. I've used it every time I've booked except for when we did an exchange out thru Interval. Once you fill it out, you get an auto-response so you know it went thru. Then about 1-2 days later you get an email response letting you know the status. In this instance, I was told what we wanted was unavailable. I replied to the email requesting to be waitlisted. Our ressie came thru like 6 days later. I only know it came thru though becasue I checked my "Vacation Details" section online - haven't received the snail mail confirmation letter yet. You also don't get any email confirmation sent back to you when it was a waitlist. When we have been able to book from our original request (no waitlist) you do get an email confirmaion. :confused3

I'm a a techy person :surfweb: and have honeslty had some challenges when I called MS with things being done incorrectly - so I prefer the online form. At least if there's going to be a mistake, it's mine! I would LOOOOOVVVEEEE it if they would get a tad bit more hi-tech and let us actually check availability, book ressies in real time, view a wait list request, etc online! I'm shocked that the whole booking process for DVC is still as un-techy as it is. But maybe that's just me - I do everything online from banking to booking hotels and airlines.

Thanks again for everyone's input - I'm going to call MS and try the reallocate approach!!! I'll let you know how it goes....

Hi, just wanted to provide followup to this thread. I called MS and there was no problem banking my 2010 points and reallocating the existing reservation. I did not have to cancel and rebook. As expected, the borrow from 2012 was permanent, so I used those first no problem.

The CM I spoke to did tell me that they can only do reallocations like this if it is your home resort. She said if I was at another resort in the 7 month window, it would have to be cancelled and rebooked.

Thanks again for the adivce - my points are all straightened out now :yay:
