OOPS- help needed ASAP pls! Tie-dye wrinkle...

I gathered and put the elastic band around Mickey head before I soaked my shirts in soda ash....
Think I need to take the band out before soaking ?

I'm a bit afraid my gathering will come apart if I do???

I'm just gathering supplies to do this, so any help asap would be lovely !

I always gather and band my MH's before soaking in soda ash. It is too hard to do it after soaking when the fabric is wet, plus, you (should) then be doing this with gloves on, as soda ash is mildly caustic. I feel it also helps to keep the wet fabric from stretching to far out of shape, as the MH banding keeps the shirt "centered" (does this make sense?? Don't have to try too hard to match up shoulder seems, etc, to lay flat and swirl.)

I also figure if the bands are on and the fabric does not get wet under there while soaking, this can only help you get a well defined Mickey Head!

I put the bands back on and they seemed ok.
