I believe it is Bye-Bye to our Disney trip in May!!!

We learned today that the engine in our Grand Caravan needs to be replaced. :( :( :( :( :( :( :( Even with getting the engine cleaned and rebuilt, we are apparently talking $$2500-3500. Ouch!! Ouch!! Ouch!! This after having to get the new dryer due to that dying on Saturday.

Kristy....that sounds about like our luck!! When it rains, it pours!!!

Are you getting back the tax refund? Could you use that to help or was it already earmarked for something?

It comes in 3's. I felt I should just stand at my back door and yell "anyone want to be paid today for fixing something in my house. Get in line."

First it was the pump in my washmachine. Then the coil went out in my stove. Then I had to buy a new glass top, for stove, cause husband stood on it changing a lite bulb. Then pump went out in dishwasher. Never did get a new one. Just doing dishes by hand.

oh, don't do that. Don't title a thread with "this really hurts" I thought there was something wrong with you or the baby.

Glad you're ok, good luck with the van.

Have you considered just getting a new van? A car is never the same after you make a big fix it like that...and the monthly payments would be more manageable than such a huge payment as an engine fix. Then you can still save the trip! :D ok, just thinking good thoughts. I hope you are feeling well!!

Don't cancel your trip altogether....why not just push it out a bit, until you can recoup your losses?

I'm with Jillpie on her suggestion too!

Good luck & I hope it works out for you!

We thought about the new van, but we still owe $6000 on it! And we certainly wouldn't get that much out of it with a dead engine, so we would still have a big chunk of money to come up with. :( It's only a 99, so it is only 4 years old. 20 payments left on that sucker. Ugghhhh!!

Postpone, don't cancel, Kristy, as Rose suggested. I did that when Marie had me 'cancel' our trip in '98, I called CRO and moved it back one year and went in '99, still had a goal out there. Hoping the best for the immediate though, the van. Always something, I hear ya.

Sorry to hear about the engine (yet happy this is not baby related! ;) ) If it's of any help, when we had our previous van, the engine needed to be rebuilt (it had well over 100,000 on it!). We had it rebuilt and the van last for another 5 years (including about 4 trips to FLA!). :bounce:

Since May is still 9 months away, I would hold off cancelling or postponing for awhile. Plenty of things (both bad and GOOD!) can happen in 9 months! :)
