Ontario -- first time visit

Well I am leaving tomorrow for my first ever visit to Ontario beyond Pearson airport

Anybody have any tips for hidden gems to visit in GTA? I don't mean the main touristy things but stuff one wouldn't really think of whether it be an icecream joint, restaurant, district, etc... lay it on

We like both the Toronto Zoo and Casa Loma. If you have wheels you can venture out of GTA and get to Stratford (Christopher Plummer is playing there this year) or NOTL where there is a very good production of "Harvey". And, you know, Ontario's wine country.

In downtown Toronto, Kensington Market is great. Lots of different shops and restaurants-- very ethnically diverse and authentic. Pedestrian Sundays are even better --no cars are allowed so there is a festival like atmosphere with the streets filled with buskers. But I think those are only on the last Sunday of the month....

Glad to have you here, but bad timing. With the fences going up for the G20 in 2 weeks downtown is turning into a fortress. But then again, you are coming from BC so the security from the Olympics should look familiar (if of course you are close to Vancouver).

if you venture East this is an amazing restaurant on Lake Ontario in Pickering.. http://www.portrestaurant.ca/ You can eat and watch the boats come in and out of Lake Ontario.. - make sure to call ahead, they are busy..

There's a great park at the West end of Toronto. It's called High Park and is right outside the High Park subway station on the Bloor/Danforth line.

I see you've already been in Toronto for 3 days, so maybe you already have enough things to do?
