help me, please, i should probably know this;) & lent my universal book to a friend & can't check there either:rolleyes:

the car rental rates (while very early in game) for our dates June/July r in area of $450 for 9 days:eek:

*considering picking up rental @ MCO & dropping @ Universal hotel(s), then re-renting there (or go offsite to pick up vehicle) when we leave for remainder of trip to WDW

I prefer National, don't see anything near U:confused3 ; Alamo would be 2nd choice, did see location on Universal Blvd

I know Hertz is @ Portofino, r they the same agency for all onsite properties:confused: ?

**Seem to recall there is an agency w/i walking distance of the hotels - budget or dollar perhaps?

***lastly, approx how much is a cab from MCO to Portofino for 3 pp?

thanks stL, appreciate it, least now i can stop digging onsite

i never get good rates w/hertz, oh well, lots of time to dig...

i may just call the different agencies 800 #s tomorrow & let them tell me where the nearest sites are:idea:

I haven't checked prices lately but when I did once it was outrageous to use any USO hotel as a pick up or drop off point with Hertz. Like 4x the price of both pick up and drop off at MCO. I was trying to avoid keeping a car onsite and paying the parking fee.

I'am using Hertz with my CAA discount. I'am staying at the RPR and will pick my car up there at the end of our stay. We are heading to the Gulf to go swimming with the Manatees and see the in-laws. The price I got was $222.65 tax in for 5 days. I don't know if this is good or not because we usually use DME and never need a vehicle. My request is a medium size vehicle.

Forgot to add that I will be dropping off at Tampa Airport when we leave.

well, as long as you're happy with the price. For comparison, we are getting a mid size for 4 days for $125 including all taxes. This is with the Costco discount code from Alamo. I think MCO prices are the cheapest in all of FL b/c there's so much competition. It's still worth it to occasionally recheck your price to see if it drops. :surfweb:

There is a Budget/Avis at the Holiday Inn Universal Maingate hotel - across from Universal Studios.

Just learned this yesterday. :drive:

Across the street/behind PBH, there is an Avis at the DoubleTree and a Budget at the Holiday Inn (near TGIFridays) :thumbsup2

But...I think you already have this covered? :teeth:

This thread has been very helpful :thumbsup2

I checked out the Hertz onsite - ouch!

I looked at the avis for our dates, it was better then hertz, but budget was better even still, and had a better selection of vehicles for our dates.

Also, southwest just emailed me a promotion code for Budget, and if you are a Rapid Rewards Member, this code will save you $30 off the top, and up to 20% off your car rental of five or more consecutive days.
Good for Budget airport locations in the United States through March 31, 2009

Code is MUAZ021

I am checking if this code will work at the Holiday Inn Budget.

It should...and, so you know, it's Holiday Inn Universal (code is M04). Budget is inside....still a Budget...just happens to be at a Holiday Inn.

I got a AAA rate of $309.00 for a week (all taxes/fees) for a full size car (Chrysler 300, etc) for the second week in February through Hertz. Without the AAA discount it was over double that price. I like Hertz, but they are pricey if you don't find a discount somewhere.

I posted on another thread before seeing this one, but I believe there's an Alamo at Sheraton Universal on I-drive. It looks like this is less than 2 miles from RPR, and the Mears cab estimate is only $6. I can usually get good rates from Alamo picking up at the airport, so our plan is to get the car for the first part our trip which is Disney and then return it to the Sheraton, then take a cab to RPR. We'll then take a cab back to the airport because it's estimated at $36 which is the same price as the Mears shared shuttle van for 2 people. Would much rather have our private cab on our own timeline! And the cost savings with the reduced car rental time and not having to pay to park at RPR even with the 2 cab rides saves us about $130! :thumbsup2

I've been at RPR before and know that we won't need a car to go anywhere else while we're there! I love Disney, but I am looking forward to the 2nd half of our kid-free anniversary trip which will be spent at Universal at RPR!

best rate i found was SAMs club , produced 9 days, intermediate beginning 6/27 for $202 after the $30 coupon:cheer2: (their rates have rates for avis too)

spirit air (anybody, just sign up on site) is another good one U109700

ps if ur feeling lucky;) there r tons on flyertalk, just need to be careful about eligibility...i like buget's site as it tends to identify the affiliation @ times on the pricing page:thumbsup2

I don't know for sure because I haven't actually been there, but it's listed on Alamo as Orlando Sheraton Studios at 5905 International Drive. I looked up the hotel on the Sheraton website, and it's actually listed there as Four Points by Sheraton, so I think that's what I'll need to look for when returning the car! And the hotel listing did say there was a car rental onsite although it didn't list the company. So for now, our plan is to return the car to this Sheraton and take a cab to RPR. I assume there will just be one there at the Sheraton, but I'll have Mears # with me in case we need to call for one.
