My sister and her family can either drive from Michigan and spend 6 days :onsite :moped: or fly and spend 8 days offsite. Which would you do? She has 3 children ages 15, 11, and 6 so they plan on taking breaks during the day too.

i know this wasnt 1 of the choices but
can she fly and spend all 8 nights at pofq ?
instead of wl ?
i think i would do 6 nights on site if i could get there early on my 1st day and and leave late on my last
but then again ive never stayed off site
im sure its just as great being you'll have a car
i dont usually have a car with me
im just as undecided as you :confused3

I chose the 6 days on-site b/c I refuse to stay off-site. So inconvenient!! And, w/taking breaks, who knows how often those hotel shuttles run. She might be wasting more time going back and forth to her off-site hotel!

Why not fly out and spend 8 days at POP or All Stars!? They're less $$ than POFQ or WL. That'd be my my choice if it's a matter of $$!!

In my opinion I would stay offsite for my time. I have done it and it is not as bad as some poeple make it sound

I would stay offsite for 8 days. After 6 days at WDW I would not want to turn around and drive back to Michigan.

VERY tough question, I voted 6 days onsite, as I have stayed off site and on site, and while there is absolutly nothing wrong with staying off site, I just LOVE the feeling of be on Disney property and having the "magic" 24/7.

If it is an option though, she might want to look into POR the entire time, while I love WL, Disney property is Disney property, and I would much rather have 8 days at a value/moderate then 6 days at a deluxe.

Why not fly and stay at a value for 8 days? That is what I would do... I am also from MI and I can not imagine they will be driving throug with out stopping.. cut that expence along with gas and stay at a value for 8 and fly.

I think part of the magic of Disney comes from staying on Disney property.....I will always choose onsite vs offsite.

I'd fly, and either stay offsite (my preference) or downgrade the onsite selection.

It's a solid two days drive from MI. And, while getting there may be half the fun, getting back is NOT the other half!

If you are willing to drive while you are there, you can get some very good deals offsite. We are renting a fully-equipped 3BR/3BA townhouse with a private splash pool located 12 minutes from the TTC lot for a titch under what a single Value room would cost me---*after* the AAA discount! Yes, you have to pay for the rental car, but for as much as you're saving on the room, it's still a good deal.

As an aside, it's not much harder (and sometimes easier) to take breaks offsite than on, again provided you are willing to drive. If driving is a show-stopper, I'd still fly, but go with POR, cutting a day or two if need be to make the budget work.

I'm with Brian on this one. Your sister has 3 kids, so the value's are not an option unless she books two rooms. I know POR has the trundles, but I'm not sure what the bed situation for 5 people is at WL. In any event, she is paying way more than if she stays offsite. Skyauction, or townhouses at windsor palms or regal palms will give them excellent offsite options, with great pools and 3 bdrms (at least in the townhouses). I just got a great deal on a townhouse for $99. per night! With 5 people, having the kitchen area will MORE than pay for the cost of the rental car, if they choose to fly instead. They owe it to themselves to at least check out the websites.

I know that five in a value resort is a no-no, but I've done it. If I were in this situation, I'd rather stay on-site at a value resort and fly in if it were comparable in price to driving and staying at a moderate/deluxe. I've driven each time I've been there and we park our truck and leave it. We love Disney transportation and think it's the way to go! You can always stay at a moderate or deluxe when the financing is there later on.

Another vote for onsite. We will never stay offsite. The convenience of being in the middle of the magic is too important for us.

Wow! I'm kind of suprised at how one-sided the voting is. I should mention that a value resort is not an option, my sister hates them! And as things stand now, I will be flying down all by my lonesome and my sis and her gang will be meeting me two days later. I love staying on-site, but if she would rather stay off-site and fly with me, I would go for that too. That way the traveling would be part of the fun! :goodvibes

Will they rent a car if they fly? If the answer is yes, I would go with a longer offsite stay. But with no car, I wouldn't want to be dependent on offsite shuttles, especially if it's a busy time of year.

Have they ever been before? What are their expectations? Sometimes us DISers think that everyone approaches a Disney vacation the way we do. The average traveler can have just as much fun without doing everything "by the book."
